Please no Nintendo, I don't want even more otherwise good games to be F2P.
What's wrong with F2P?
Microtransactions that are almost totally required to fully enjoy the game.
Think this way; your game is cut in half or less and you buy the other half of the game with money.
Stop thinking of shitty Korean MMOs, there are plenty of good F2P games out there that don't force micro-transactions on you.
Generally F2P games are MMOs and are a terrible grind if you don't buy in.

MWO and PS2 spring to mind but apparently they've been "fixed"

Well, there are games which can be played without microtransactions, but generally they're a massive grindfest or put you at the mercy of the random number gods.
If you can name one that doesn't fit any of those categories, good job.
How the hell could any of their games work as F2P? Unless they are finally planning to do a completely new game.
I dunno; maybe have them work as co-op experiences and you pay for the "campaigns". For example they could make a Four Swords U that takes place all over Hyrule's history, with each time period having a short campaign in it; a few of the campaigns would be free, but the rest would require you to buy them, kind of like buying rulebooks for a tabletop game.
Might not be the best F2P strategy for a Nintendo IP, but it's better than having to pay a quarter every time you want to play a non-free campaign.

Or an ingame economy that gets in the way of the actual game because people sit in spawn and spam chat about how they want to trade their Bill's Hat for 20 keys
Didn't they patent that concept where it's a single player experience but other players can influence the economy and stuff?
Dota 2.
Team Fortress 2 too. Although that has unlockable weapons. You don't need them, but it definitely makes it more fun and allows for more diverse tactics.
Dota 2's approach to F2P is probably the most glorious of all. Everything in the game is available to you straight away, with the exception of completely optional cosmetic character customization, of which you find plenty if you just play the game.
Not to be racist or jingoist or whateverist but Asia pretty much can't into F2P, or for the most part DLC for that matter. Haven't yet seen or tried an F2P game out of Japan or Korea that wasn't the biggest exploitative P2W fest ever, all because that's what that audience is into. Now, I like Nintendo as much as the next guy but considering they tried to sell single NSMB levels for like three bucks a pop as DLC, I don't foresee a bright future of F2P Nintendo games. They just don't get the value of digital content, same with Capcom just sayin'.
Well I did my homework and the NSMB DLC was a whopping THREE levels for $2.50 but my point still stands.

It still takes roughly 1000 kills to get the decent weapons in PS2, good luck with some of the peashooters you start with (they really arent that bad but some of the stuff you can get is rediclous in comparsion)
Generally =/= always
MMOs are grindy by default anyway, WoW is pay to play and you've got to grind the whole way from 1-90 and then when you get there you have to grind battlegrounds, dungeons, and daily quests for weeks to get gear and gold.
Why do you have fixed in quotes? They've been lessening the grind in Planetside 2 since the alpha, the game is fully playable without spending a single penny, if you were expecting to unlock everything within a week that's pretty dumb.
PS2 is far from perfect in the regard of its free to play model. Fantastic game all around, but there are weapons that can be unlocked later that are just better hands down and take hilarious amounts of time to unlock through ingame means.
Dota 2.
Now try and name one that isn't done by Valve who owns a monopoly over digital distribution and wont ever be in any financial worries
Hopefully Nintendo won't get greedy with this and make it pay-to-win. They've already established they're not going overly greedy with DLC (yet) by announcing all DLC for Animal Crossing New Leaf will be free, which is awesome.

What about Pokemon? If they made an online Pokemon MMORPG , a lot of people will get the Wii U
Dota 2 and TF2 seem like the only F2P games that are done right.
Every other F2P I've played always gives massive advantages to people who spend money on it.
F-Zero F2P Cup
cough up 50 Nintendo Points to use boost power
There's probably only like 5 or so games that I can name that are good and have a fair microtransaction model.
There are hundreds of f2p games out there.
I'd rather just buy a full game unless Nintendo decides to release a mmo or something.
Team Fortress 2 too. Although that has unlockable weapons. You don't need them, but it definitely makes it more fun and allows for more diverse tactics.
Puts you at the mercy of random numbers as your primary method of unlocking the newer content, and its power creep problems mean that players with only stock weapons are at a disadvantage.
The big N should talk to Valve on how to handle F2P games, given how well TF2's gone.
Also, I can imagine a Pokemon F2P MMORPG, probably could work.

I wonder how much money Valve makes off of them. Like, I know they're successful but considering all of Valve's other revenue sources, they don't necessarily need to be that successful in the grand scope of things.
