I have decided to go with a more budget system to try other OS's that isn't Windows. This is not going to be as powerful as my last build. My budget is £600.
These are the specs for this build:
-Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77-DS3H
-Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black
-Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz
-Corsair Builder Series CX 430
-Seagate ST1000DX001 3.5 inch 1TB Hybrid Internal Solid State Drive (Primary OS drive - OS X Mavericks)
-Palit Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 StormX
-SilverStone SST-FT03B USB 3.0 Midi Tower Case - Black
-WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA III 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive (Secondary OS drive - Ubuntu)
The total cost for this build is £553.64
I have not decided if OS X will be my main OS or Ubuntu as my main OS, so this is subject to change. The things I will "test" is things I do day to day on windows (where there are applications available on these other OS's): Video Editing, 3D Modelling, 3D Animation, Level Design and basic Texturing.
Please let me know what you think.
The motherboard is a Z77-series chipset with overclocking features paired with a processor that can't be overclocked. Get a cheaper B or H series motherboard. For that matter, you might as well get a haswell series i3 instead of an ivy bridge, considering they're newer and better and barely have a price difference.
I'd recommend getting the modular version of the CX430 called the CX430M as it'll reduce cable clutter
The 750Ti is about ten quid more than the 750 and significantly better. It's a much better choice for the price.
The Seagate Barracuda 1TB costs two quid more than the WD Blue 500GB and is much better. I see no reason not to get it for the second drive
It comes together to something like this, the case lacks a link as there are no vendors updated on pcpartpicker(but the average price i found was around 110). http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2Zk2I
Depending on how cheap you can get these parts(and the case!), you can even manage to squeeze in the cheapest i5 4430 and stay just under the 600 budget http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2Zka2
