Isn't that the entire goal of the game?
I love the rollercoaster tycoon series, definitely getting this!
so the platinum version is basically the base + 2 expansions?
The 3D ones sucked.
Bah, for that price you can get the second one on gog.com which (for me) provided much more fun.
Still 10€? It's totally worth it but when I read the title I thought it might be cheaper so I can get a copy on Steam in case my old CDs getting too scratched (or to redownload accidently deleted files).

I think I'll buy it. This game brings me good memories.
I'm surprised that so old game still costs almost 30€
I love creating rollercoaster death traps.
I tought nobody died in the 3D ones, they would just get up after their rollercoaster crashed.
If you can't decide whether to buy it or not, let this video help you:

I thought it would be something like 3/5€, 7.5€ at the most but 10.20€ for a 7 year old game?

Which is why the 3D ones are inferior to the 2D ones.
There is a demo here: http://www.rollercoastertycoon.com/us/index.php
When this game is 66% off I would expect it to be around five bucks.

While I disagree with this, I can see where you may be coming from. When a game moves from an isometric point of view to a full 3D-rendered game, the developers put less content and variation of rides in the game to compensate for the amount of time it takes to make a 3D ride/scenery item.
Same thing happened with The Sims. There's a shitload of stuff in the first one, but the move to 3D made The Sims 2 void of hardly any content until expansions came out.
Edit: I'm such a dumb fuck. I just realized I remembered playing The Sims with all the expansions.
My point here is moot.

Nice nostalgia goggles there.
Play the first Sims game without any expansions and you'll realize how little content was actually there. The Sims 2, and hell even the Sims 3, base games had much more content in them than the first. The only thing where the first succeeded was with how much content the expansions added.
It's still too expensive for what it is in my opinion.
One step I loathe from the move to 3D is that they made the game very kid friendly and cartoony, while the first one actually felt pretty ''gritty'' at some moments ( Anyone remembers the total silence when you moved the camera away from your park ? ) the 3d ones had poeple with cute heads and stuff running around.

In case of RCT I have to disagree with this. It was more the other way round. RCT2 had two expansions which were like The Sims 2/3's stuff packs: reskins of existing content. RCT3 however introduced many new features with the main game and the expansions like swimming pools, water slides, zoo-stuff, VIPs, scenarios with multiple goals (and secondary goals), water, firework and laser shows, peep-groups, ride-events, the flying camera editor and a lot of unique rides such as the split coaster, the tilt coaster, the ball coaster, the Kari Oki concert, the dolphin/killer whale/lion show, the Roller-Soaker, the Robo-coaster, the drift-coaster, the spinning steel coaster, ...
You would expect a new game in 3D to consist of less micro-management, but apart from the missing function to give the tracked ride cars more than one color sheme, it was better in this section as well (train your employees, change their appearance, set up your own menu at stalls, select the ingredients for food and drinks, ...).
Also the game is more mod-friendly. In the first games you had some limitations due to the 2D graphics and a tracked ride car required a few thousand rendered frames. RCT3's modding opportunities have outshined RCT2's since you can create custom scenery, custom tracked ride cars, custom flatrides, custom stalls and custom tracks. The custom content raised the game to a whole new level. It can be very realistic with the right content if it's that what you're aiming for.
In conclusion it is better in almost every way from my point of view. Only the horrible design of some rides (giga coaster or monorail (both have been "fixed" by the community)), the lack of some previously available functions and the lower nostalgia/charm factor are the downside of RCT3.
Still not sure what I think...
Does anyone know any mods for this game?
while the first one actually felt pretty ''gritty'' at some moments ( Anyone remembers the total silence when you moved the camera away from your park ? )
What?
No, really, how can you even remotely consider that 'gritty' in any way?
Wallet Rape

Any? There's a whole fucking lot out there! I recommend all the content from the users named ShyGuy, Old-Spice, Vodhin and all the Revolutionary Rides. There are some user-created-expansion packs (packages with multiple custom content) out there as well like the NetOn.
I've created a lot of content myself back in the old days. If anybody wants it, it can be found here:
