• Need a new PC

My friend told me to come here so basically I'm getting sick of my iMac 27" that was handed down to me a while back. I've grown a taste for bad company two and I can't run on my native resolution or with anything decent settings wise (Mostly Low) I'd like a fast computer that can max bad company 2 and hopefully BF3 and Skyrim. Money isn't a concern but keep it above 2 grand and under 3 grand so if something else is only 10$ more i'll buy it. My iMac has a native res of 2560x1440 and I can input and use it as a monitor with a apple dvi adapter. I'd like a "Gaming Keyboard" with decent tactile feedback, a decent mouse and a nice headset. Also I've chosen the corsair 650D for a case, I also live in canada. Thanks.
Spend $1500 CAD at most. Save the rest for upgrades. Before you say "but the thing is I never want to upgrade it!". That's not correct. Getting dual GTX 580s or 6970s now is overkill, so basically wasted money. New technology will trump it within a year anyway, so going for medium-high end instead of high end is the best way to go.

I was talking to my friend about it. as soon as I mentioned 9800 GX2 he told me to post here. So what are saucy things I can get with my money and some things like video cards I should get to push the monitor? [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] what about a prebuilt like alienware are they any good?
Never get a prebuilt ever. (Very few exceptions but this is not a situation where a prebuilt is a good option) [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] Also do you want to try overclocking?
If I can add you on steam so you can teach me about it, sure. Otherwise I feel like its risky since I've heard stories of people killing cpus
Only idiots kill them, surely you aren't one. Anyways I'm not the one to go for overclocking since I am a noob myself, and I use AMD not Intel. But I'm just gonna add overclocking into your build since you can always make a thread here asking how to do it.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/mexicanofarmer [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] anyone is welcome to add me if they want to help
It would be better to keep it here so more people can give advice.
Ok, can you add me anyways, more friends the merrier woo anyways, am I looking at dual video cards here?
Nope. One GTX 580 should be good enough (other builders correct me if I am wrong). Almost done with build.
Nope. One GTX 580 should be good enough (other builders correct me if I am wrong). Almost done with build.
I think the 570 should be sufficient for it's price.
I think the 570 should be sufficient for it's price.
I'm not really trying to save money, plus a 580 has bragging rights.
I think the 570 should be sufficient for it's price.
He has a huge ass monitor though.
He has a huge ass monitor though.
If it maxes BC2 and at least medium on BF3 I'll be happy
-snip ignore build wait for GTX 590-
why an i5? Isn't the i7 better, also I could I get another 580 now and forget the upgrade? also I really dislike that case, its too..... well uhm, kiddish also can the motherboard handle two 580s? also I was browsing newegg and saw a 6990, whats that? thanks [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] also isn't asus a bad company, I had a laptop die twice from them (my moms laptops anyways)
i7 is useless for gaming. You won't see a difference between an i5 and i7 performance wise unless you are into modelling and that kind of heavy stuff. As I have said before, getting the best components at first is a way to waste your money. You don't need a GT 580 SLi setup, at least not yet. It would be best to wait for it to drop in price and then grab another. Yes it has two PCI-Express slots. Though it is a small board, feels like it would break under the weight of two GTX 580s haha :v: [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] Oh wow I forgot about the 6990s and GTX 590s. You know I suggest waiting until March 22nd because the GTX 590 will be released.

I also do cod commentary once in a while. also my friend says the motherboard needs an SLi bridge
The i5 2500k can be as good as the i7s (except maybe that $1000 USD one, but getting that is kind of stupid). Also yeah just wait for the GTX 590. It will last you a very, very long time. When it is released the 6990 might even go down in price due to competition or vice versa.
what about the 460 2win?
don't go for it

I also dont have to buy an adapter if I do ^^ but I dislike them amd drivers
It's not out yet either I believe.
don't go for it
Why? [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
It's not out yet either I believe.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127574&cm_re=6990-_-14-127-574-_-Product isnt that it?

Or what if AMD decides to lower the price of the 6990 to beat out the GTX 590? [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] One of those will probably happen.
Why?
it's as its name suggests, it's basically 2 GTX 460s, and both the 590 and 6990 will annihilate it

[editline]11th March 2011[/editline] Also no offense the phrase "money doesn't matter" and others like it might get you bashed on by people here.
oh, alright, just saying you should max out my budget, I'm probably gonna get a 128gb elm crest ssd too. I'm almost done with my build.
