• Computer Crashing, seems like it's overheating

My computer has been shutting down without warning a lot like it's overheating. I've been screwing with my computer for almost half a year now and it looks like it's close to working but it will run for a few minutes and then crash if I try doing something like running skype and google chrome for ten minutes. I can't use the HWMonitor because as I said if I try to install it that's all it takes for my computer to shut down. I am able to get the overclocking options from my motherboard by opening it on start up. If I let it idle on the overclocking screen which has a monitor for cpu frequency and temperature, the temperature stays in the middle at about 40 degrees. I don't know if it is this low because it's a simple thing that I'm running or if it's always this low. The frequency however is maxed out it seems at about 3.3 I don't know anything about overclocking since I've never tried it so I'm wondering if this could be the cause of my problem. As I've said I've been fiddling with the computer for a long time. I've replaced the cpu fan and the motherboard and I'm wondering now if it is a problem with my video card. Sorry if this is hard to understand, I suck at explaining things. If you want any more info I can give it to you.
