I NEED to convince my dad to switch from DSL to Comcast internet, it's 3/512Kbps vs. 15/5. He's mainly afraid that he won't be able to use his current email, which is on the @snet.net domain, and need to switch to Comcast's. This wouldn't happen right?
Well, call the old ISP and ask if he can continue to use his current email address even if you switch to Comcast.
I dont think it would terminate the E-mail account, call your isp and ask
You usually have a few months to transfer files, but yes, he would eventually lose that email unless he set up a special agreement
What is your current ISP?

AT&T

Ew, yeah you need to switch. Doesn't AT&T have a freaking cap on their DSL?

i thought i read somewhere it was 250GB a month, but that's probably wrong. I've gotten close to 100GB in one month but I didn't get a notice.

Latency's bad though on top of the already shitty speed
Comcast is pretty shit, too. I have it, and they do throttle. What they do is offer a high speed, and you'll always get that speed. UNLESS, you actually download something. It's advertised as "speedboost". When you download something, your speeds drop insane. And outages are frequent.

Really? I had a good impression of them. Speedboost is advertised as an extra service rather than included in the standard package. My closest 6 friends have Comcast and they get up to 2MB/s on steam downloads and their connections rarely go out, it happened I think once last year, where they all lost internet for 5 minutes. I think your area is just beat for service

I have Comcast and I have few problems with my download speeds, and I rarely hit the 250GB cap. Steam speeds are a pretty solid 1.6MB/s and other downloads vary server to server.
