Hey, I am building a PC for a friend and I need some help deciding on parts.
Budget: About $500 (Make it less if possible)
Need: GPU, CPU, RAM, and new motherboard. Oh and probably a new PSU (Maybe new case)
Game's going to be played: Source Games (Low-End gaming)
Resolution: 1024 x 768
Location: United States
Current Specs:
GPU: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (128 MB)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
RAM: 502 MB (Probably DDR2)
Motherboard: N/A
Operating System: XP (Ether Home Edition or Pro)
Help is very much appreciated.

Can you add a PSU and maybe lower the prices on a few thing's? I was thinking something in the more mid-range. Maybe like a 8800gts or something. And the ram doesn't have to be 4gb of DDR3, I was thinking like 2gb of some quality DDR2. Also, a dual-core at that speed would probably be better for the price.
Keep the processor, it's the best price-per-money right now.

It all seem's like a good deal, but the parent's are REALLY strict on the money, I want it as low as possible but still be a lowish-end source gaming machine. The 3-core CPU isn't really that necessary. And if it is possible...Maybe add a big enough case to hold it all? I am unsure about their current one. Sorry if I am asking for so much. And if you have to get a new motherboard from changing the CPU and the price is higher, I'll probably stick with this.
It's 20$ less for the only decent dual-core.
It's 20$ less for the only decent dual-core.
Link please? Oh and if you can, bring the 4GB to 2GB (RAM) for price reasons.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680
If you happen to run into a Dual-Core that is at the speed of about 2.4 to 2.8. (Once again, for price reasons.) I am VERY sorry that I am asking for so much. :ohdear: They aren't going to even consider buying it unless I come up with something that's about $375. (IMO) By the way I changed some stuff in some other posts.
Hon, it's not the gigahertz of the core that matters, it's the quality.
He doesn't need a 4850 for what he is asking and since it's a very tight budget assuming you don't want it to even be $400 then take this GPU

That look's like a deal, I'll look into this. Oh could you maybe add a power supply too? I REALLY want to keep the price down to about $375 or less.

What about this deal?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.216717
I am not looking for a high-end gaming PC, just enough to get by on Source-Game's with 30+ FPS on highish setting's. (Some medium) Remember the resolution of his monitor is 1024 x 786. It's not very big.
I already added a psu
It's a Corsair 400w and the combo comes with a ATi 4650
Just stick what with I posted. It's well below your budget and will play source.

Oh, okay. You mean this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.238291 because you just put the GPU.

Can you guy's approve of this combo-deal?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.216717
It's $40 less than what you guy's said I should I get. I just need a something that won't perform bad and is in a very low price range.
The total of everything right now is $293. Without case it is, $243. (Maybe find a bit cheaper case?)
This looks pretty good for a cheap case:

Can you give a us an accurate freaking budget?
You say $500 but you think $375 and now you're trying to get below $300.

Really sorry about that, I am trying to get it as low as I can go without the part's being bad. My budget right now is trying to stay ether at exactly $300 or below.

How come you can't wait a few extra months and come up with another $300?
If you are poor to the point where that would be impossible then you shouldn't be getting a new computer.
I was thinking like 2gb.
It would be stupid to get anything less then 4GB.
quality DDR2.
It doesn't matter what brand you get, they all come from the same places and they all can have problems.
You pay for the customer service and the leet gamer heatsinks that they put on it (you don't need RAM heatsinks unless you are overclocking it and if you have to ask this question then you aren't going to be overclocking your RAM)
I wasted my time helping this guy out. Go with whatever John posted.

huh?
It wouldn't be stupid to get less of 4GB RAM. Where the hell did you get that from?
2GB is fine for any casual computer.
