So I found my old 5th Gen iPod Video in a drawer in my bathroom. So I go and charge it up to possibly mess with it. The battery is absolutely shit now, so it can't hold a charge for much longer than 5 minutes. But I put some music on it and listened to it. And guess what? It sounds like crap. Okay, crap might be a harsh word, but it still wasn't particularly good. I use some cheap-ish $20 Sony earbuds. They aren't really audiophile quality, but apparently they were good enough to bring out imperfections. I can't imagine what it would be like with real headphones.
I found their wasn't much bass response, and the treble sounds like a really compressed MP3. I've had an iPod Touch for about a year, and apparently I've become spoiled by the sound quality where there actually is some bass without using an Equalizer. Hell, my Droid Eris (an HTC Hero basically) has much better sound quality.
I really hope that Apple isn't using the same hardware in their current iPod Classics. Because if so, they are getting ripped off big time. Now I know why people say that the iPod is/was an inferior music player for a premium price.
/rant. Now I'm sure some of you are going to disagree, or say "A++ thread, would read again!". I'm done here.
well I think most people who have a current ipod are generally satisfied... even if It does break down over time... I would probably buy another before that happens
I've had my iPod video for about 5 years now, the battery is still fine and everything works properly.
when my ipod touch breaks down i'm getting an android
Iv had the second gen ipod touch for 2 years, and i'm really surprised at how well the battery has lasted!.. ok its not the full capacity, but its still great. However i will add that my friends first gen video sucks, he says he got like an hour charge out of it!!
I use my iPod classic and sometimes videos pretty much everyday. Sound quality has never let me down?
I just ordered iPod Touch 32 gig because my old iPod Touch 1st gen had a problem with the headphone jack. I was about to get the Zune HD but wanted the nice apps.
If its left sitting around unused i can see its quality going down faster then one being used, as if its being used its also being cared for and the battery will be cycled properly and not just slowly wearing down in a drawer somewhere.

The reason it did go unused was because the battery would die within a half hour. And it would get caught in boot loops because it couldn't hold a charge long enough to boot up. Maybe I got a particularly bad battery. I'm going to replace the battery and give it to my grandfather though, since he wants it. So it won't be unused for too much longer.

That sounds like something that some big corporation would do to make you buy there products in the future.

Agreed, I've had my classic for 3+ years now and the quality sounds just as good as I remember it.

Okay, so they probably fixed it with the newer iPod classics. there is also a lot of background noise on my Video. I just find listening to music on my iPod Touch or cell phone to be much more pleasing.
