This game turns out pretty promising since the last patch, unfortunately the fee is really what keeps me away from the game.
So does the xbox version also have a subscription fee on top of the monthly live fee? That would be ridiculous.
I really want to get in on this game from the beginning, but at the same time it's probably nothing I haven't already seen.
Sorry but to be worth $60 AND a monthly fee, it has to be fucking amazing. ESO is as bland as it gets as far as a game goes. The only thing that the game's impressed me with is armor design. But you can wrap a pair of socks in the best christmas wrap money can buy, it's still a boring pair of socks

If it were just like, $40 buy to play, I'd probably be perfectly fine getting it and playing occasionally.
I got in to an argument with people in region chat during the last beta event about why this game cannot survive on a subscription model and why trying to stick with it is a bad idea.
Yeah, right. Call me when it fails and goes F2P so I'll maybe play it.
I've been in the last five beta tests and I've ignored the past 4 for a reason.

PC and PS4 you just have to pay the initial $60 and the $15 sub, on Xbox One you have to pay $60 + $15/month sub + Xbox Live Gold.

Normally yes, but not for ESO.
Will playing online with The Elder Scrolls Online have a separate subscription compared to PlayStation Plus? — @NathanaelMoner
A PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play The Elder Scrolls Online. PS4 players will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay—nothing more.
I cant wait until this goes F2P, because then ill play the shit out of it
The real question here is if they can win over the WoW crowd, and the answer will forever be no, and thus, it is doomed for failure/f2p. See you in a year, gents.

The only "WoW killer" is WoW itself.
My friend bought the Imperial Edition, and while I can't say I agree with his decision, I can see what it's like.

Tabula Rasa 2 will kill WoW.
After all these years wow will die by itself and no one will claim the wowkiller title.
what about an mmo where the base game is free and you pay a dollar an hour of gameplay

wow that was kind of a shit 8,000th post

Actually that's a really cool idea, like a pre-paid phone vs a monthly.
Actually that's a really cool idea, like a pre-paid phone vs a monthly.
Not really. I mean, 15 hours for 15 dollars, or 15 dollars for as much time as you want for a month....
[editline]2nd March 2014[/editline]
I mean, when you have a job, 15 dollars a month is not that bad or huge.
The problem is that you want to feel like that 15 dollars is worth something. If you play WOW, for an example, 15 dollars a month gives you access to like, older expansions and a shit load of content before even eating a chunk of the new content.
ES:O comes in with a 60 dollars entry rate, which generally is about 40-80 hours of playtime in a standard TES game (Skyrim/oblivion), then, above that, they charge 15 dollars a month. This is not a 60 dollars "Cool expansion", it's a 60 dollars entry gate.
Like, choose either
A)make a 60 dollars entry point then charge for cosmetic micro-transactions/non PVP related bonuses (This is generally better if the cosmetics can be bought with in-game currency, so that players don't feel cheated in content)
or B) Make a 15 subscription fee each month, however making micro-transactions over that might upset a lot more people than a 60 dollars game.
Either way, there's no winning in the MMO business right now. People are going to get annoyed at whatever you do.
Guild Wars offers an entry fee, but the end-game content gets extremely stale very quickly (Or so I've heard). No subscription is its main appeal.
WoW is subscription based, still going strong, now with micro-transaction to generate even more profit, and expansions as well.
Then you have a shitload of F2P with dubious to good microtransactions.
ES:O has to make a choice. It can't be both, or its going to lose it's player base. (Or maybe the fact that people paid 60 dollars will make them guilt-buy the subscription fee because they'd feel like they wasted their money if they don't pay the subscription)
I never got into MMOs since I could never really utilize that full month.
I just tried the latest beta session today with a friend, and after about 30 minutes we both had to quit because we were falling asleep.
I'm not touching this game until it's free to play.
Although the fact it violates the lore in every possible way is also one big turnoff.
The F2P system just works a lot better for MMO's.
I really don't see why they're fighting it. If they think they won't make money, then clearly they've never seen a f2p mmo.

I didn't say $1 per hour amount was a good idea, just that the different pay model was a neat idea because a lot of people say they can't play a game enough a month to justify a monthly fee.

At this point I would not be surprised if their strategy was to release the game with a subscription fee to draw as much money as possible from die-hard loyal fans (hence the stupidly expensive collectors edition), and when the game is more patched and once subscription fees start decreasing they switch it to F2P and enjoy the bonus income from these few months of people buying the game and paying extra money every month.

Don't forget the "Founder" gimmick, forcing people to buy the game before the switch unless they want a limited account type.
Runescape used to be like a 5er (havnt played since 07) but I would pay that every month without a second thought. For three years I think I paid it every monthly, even if I wasnt really playing much.
I dont any long-term MMO has enough content to warrant 15/pm though. Sounds like its something you would just no life for a few months then thats it.
What I want is a long term MMO.
Like runescape but not as shit. If RS was first person and had proper skill involved in fishing etc/some sort of physics then holy shit that would be amazing.

It doesn't, eventually they'll fuck it up or there isn't enough 'fun' content worth your attention.
At some point all that you'll get is events and content meant to make you cough up some extra dosh.
I'm not saying that TESO deserves the 15 dollars a month, but at some point I hope another mmo is worth that again.
I used to pay 20-30 bucks a month for SOE's sub - but it gave me EQ2, EQ, SWG, Matrix online.
I can't see myself paying for subs anymore for anything. Specially after GW2's and playing that.
I wouldn't mind paying 5-10 dollars a month.
I watched a friend of mine stream the game yesterday. I never knew the game was that bad until I saw him play it. Within the first few minutes of the stream I heard the same "please help me" voice from one of the crucified NPCs in Fallout New Vegas.
There are just so many things wrong with the game. There is no way in hell Bethesda would be able to justify the subscription cost.
