So I want to upgrade my x2 core to a x4 or a x6. The problem is that I bought my computer from Intel, meaning that my motherboard is from Intel, and knowing Intel as the cheap people they are, I was hoping to purchase a processor from AMD. The only problem is, my mobo is Intel too, which means my socket is probably not AMD2 or AMD3. But i'm not entirely sure, so I was wondering if any of you knew:

Your socket is LGA 775, Why do you want to move to AMD? Price? I'm not trying to criticize your choice and say it's bad, I'm just wondering if there is a proper motive.
I want to move to AMD cause it's a lot cheaper than intel, as it stands I can't afford a $1,000 dollar processor. The price can be anywhere around or under $300.
Well if you're going to move to AMD you're going to want to use an AM3 motherboard, and for that you will probably need to upgrade to DDR3 Ram.

You would be fine with an ATX Motherboard, BTX is slightly bigger.
Bulldozer is this new AMD Architecture for their processors.
So it makes it less buggy and less power consuming?

You don't get bugs with processors, you get bugs with software. Power consumption I'm not so sure on, it's mostly performance they're bragging about with this.

ATX will not fit into a BTX case.

And the prices for the current phenom will most likely drop when bulldozer comes out. So wait till then. Or even upgrade to bulldozer.

Uhh, not every Intel quad core is $1000. Sandy Bridge chips range from $250-400, unless you want an older generation i7 in the LGA1366 socket.

Still, 250-400... Currently I can get a new mobo a new CPU and 8gb or Ram for around that Intel is just expensive as fuck plain and simple

Alright i'll get a new case and wait for bulldozer to come out, I still need a little more money before I hit $300 so I can wait till the 12th
