I've got this R9 290 and I quite like it actually apart from the completely random blue screens I get. I can be playing a game just fine without any problems and the out of the sudden I get a blue screen. I've browsed the internet but never found a real fix for it. Did anyone here have the same problem? And did you get rid of it?
Is it a sapphire non-reference design by any chance? They have a ridiculously high rate of defects to the point where they released an official vBIOS update that overvolted the cards for stability
Its a sapphire, where and how can I check if its a non-reference design?
Its a sapphire, where and how can I check if its a non-reference design?
By being sapphire it is non-reference. Or if it doesnt look like this then its non-reference: [img_thumb]http://images.anandtech.com/doci/7481/AMDRad_R9_290_Birdseye_RGB_24in.jpg[/img_thumb]
have you tried it on a different system?
I can't really try it on an other system because I don't have an other one around
Its a sapphire, where and how can I check if its a non-reference design?
If it doesn't look like the image Civil posted (single fan etc) then either overvolt it a bit or return it under warranty Also it goes without saying that if the bluescreens don't specifically reference some AMD related driver then you're likely barking up the wrong tree
Try RMA if possible. As a matter of fact I have a card in RMA right now.

I've tried different drivers and they all end up with giving me a BSoD from time to time. And how would I overvolt it? I have some knowledge but I'm no computer wiz, steal learning a lot of new things

Your PSU might not be able to handle it. Can you post its Brant, type and wattage here?
Alright everyone I would like to thank you all for your help but I probably got BSoD's because I was a bit stupid maybe. I downgraded my drivers to a more stable release and I haven't accounted a BSoD yet :toot:
Alright, downgrading didn't really solve the problem, I went down from 2 BSoD's a day to just 1 BSoD a day :v:
I had this problem for MONTHS with mine. Found out that it was because my 290 and my sound card were in the crossfire slots on my motherboard and were fucking with each other. Switched things around and have gone 4 months without a BSOD (besides when my HDD took a shit :v: ) I don't know if that applies to you, but I'd try it.

When I got it I just plugged everything in and it worked :v: I just put it in the MB slot and plugged the power cables
alright so I used to get them at random but now I get them daily and its really getting on my nerves. I'm going to try to do a vBIOS update but I have no idea how, can someone could explain me how?
Answer these posts before you consider a vBIOS update, as you haven't really posted anything that would suggest the GPU is actually at fault.
Also it goes without saying that if the bluescreens don't specifically reference some AMD related driver then you're likely barking up the wrong tree
(Post the BSOD driver and error code, and/or upload the minidump from c:\windows\minidumps)
Your PSU might not be able to handle it. It says I don't have access even tough I own the damn thing, I also don't know what you mean with BSOD driver and I can never really read the blue screen since it disappears before I've actually red something. PSU is (found the user manual so I'm just using info from that so bare with me.) from OCZ Technology, ModXStream-Pro, OCZ600MXSP, Total output 600W
Managed to snap a pic of the blue screen [t]http://a.pomf.se/nctcaf.jpg[/t]
Am I missing something?
What version of windows are you running? What CPU are you using? What's version number of the driver you're using?

Have you tried 15.4 beta? [editline]17th May 2015[/editline] It the bsod exclusive to a single game or is it random?
Have you tried 15.4 beta? [editline]17th May 2015[/editline] It the bsod exclusive to a single game or is it random?
Random on demanding games wich are not demanding at the moment of BSoD, like I can be driving shotgun in V and just crash out of the blue (heh) when I used the Beta drivers I was guaranteed 2 BSoD's a day. I didnt get a BSoD today yet, maybe completely uninstalling Catalist helped.
What sort of display are you connected to? I used to get random bsod and total crashes (with scrambled graphics) on my R9 270s until I determined it was some sort of issue with the configuration of catalyst and how it handled switching resolutions on an HDTV.
from OCZ Technology, ModXStream-Pro, OCZ600MXSP, Total output 600W
This is an absolutely excellent PSU. So no worry's there. (Exept if its broken of course)
