• BSOD; Laptop won't turn on

The other night while I was playing Left 4 Dead my computer froze up for a few seconds (like 15), then unfroze for about another 15, after which i got a BSOD saying something about a memory error. After that I rebooted my computer and the next time I started Left 4 Dead my screen went black and now each time I turn my computer on the power light goes on but that's it. Does anyone have any idea of what to do, I can't even get it to read my restore CDs. Things I've tried: Removing the extra RAM that I had installed. Removing the battery. Beyond that, I don't really know what else to try. It's a Dell Latitude, I can post the specs if necessary.
Next time you get a bsod, write down the error code if you can.
I would, but the laptop doesn't even turn on now.
Get it serviced. It's most likely that the PSU or the GPU got fried big time
Hold FN and press the power button, this should send the system in diagnostics mode, take note of the lock leds (numlock, caps & scroll) they should show a pattern if its a no post/power symptom.. If nothing happens try to remove the battery and run it on the powersupply only.. (and of course try the fn+power thing again) If nothing happens without battery then dettach the power cord and hold the power button for approximately 10 seconds, this should drain residual power from the system. Then try again. Post the Lockled code here if you get any (Preferably in a style like this: ON-OFF-FLASH, if you know what i mean) If the system actually begins the build in diagnostics and show something on the screen, then let it run and give me the errorcode instead :) Also: What latitude is it exactly? There are many different models of this series, and their LOCKLED code can have different meanings depending on the model
Well, I tried what you said and I get On-Flash-Flash (from left to right) but still nothing on the screen. It's a Latitude D820 by the way. It's two years old and I have a surge protector so it shouldn't be dead just yet. But if it is I doubt it still has any kind of warranty which sucks because I'm sure it's not cheap to send it in.
Im pretty sure that its a memory error code! Try to reseat ALL memory (take it out and put it in) (There is a so dimm placed under the keyboard on the D820, to get to it follow the instructions at: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd820/en/sm/memory.htm ) Pry the plastics above the keyboard off, remove the screws from the keyboard, remove the keyboard, reseat/replace the memory
Tried that, and swapping the memory from dimm a and dimm b and now I have a flash-flash-on error instead.
