Hakon (or Hawken?) the Overdwarf is gonna be the successor. No doubt about it.

Bit disappointed about the deviation from minion-based strategy and instead focusing on the new wannabe Overlords in terms of combat, but at least the humour and writing is going to be there.

At least from what I got from the interview video, it's more of a spin-off.
And it's good they are distancing it from the main game series. Maybe we will see an Overlord 3 too after this?

That's what I'm hoping, that the money from Fellowship of Evil goes towards Overlord 3 where the Overdwarf not only wreaks havoc on the world above, but also builds a massive dungeon-like fortress in the Netherworld. Hell, I would not object if a future Overlord game expanded the "headquarters" element of the main games to incorporate elements of Dungeon Keeper or Dwarf Fortress, so that in addition to asserting your dominance over the world above, you expand your dominion below ground and mine out a bunch of outposts and special structures to help out your minions. Add a bit more strategy to the strategy title without going full-on StarCraft.
