Hi, my friend wants to start PC gaming this Summer, and asked me. He has a 450 dollar budget and wants to play Fallout: New Vegas modded and some FPS, maybe even Emulation.

We will be using an extra Windows 7 key and a his hard drive.
It's a wee bit more than 450 but I think the extra $33 is worth it.

This is as good as I could do with that budget. It won't be bad, but not that great.

- The 4130 is better than the 6300 and there's no reason to get an fx cpu unless you're going to overclock it imo, but obviously get the 6300 if you think multi threading is something important to you.
- 8gb of ram
- 7870 is much better than the 750ti, and this xfx card is very well rated
- Semi modular psu
you forgot the dvd drive
get it from a trash can
you forgot the dvd drive
DVD drive? You know it's MUCH more beneficial if you download via Thumb-Drive and by website as well?
For the past few years, the only thing I have ever received as a DVD regarding PC's is the Driver CD that comes with the Mobo, and I don't even use those. Its better to download things off of websites due to the files being updated, rather than DLing from a CD, which will most likely have outdated files and drivers.

Operating systems arent even real
You never heard of installing windows from a flash drive?
Its extremely rare dvd drives ever get used but they are still worth having, more so if you have a collection of older pc games
They are only ten bucks anyway

The recommended wattage for the card is 500 watts
You do realize recommended wattage is based on cpu recommendation as well right? This build will have a max power draw of 300w
The recommended wattage for the card is 500 watts
-what lilyo said-
main difference between lilyo's build is the usage of mail-in rebates
thats the only way they're able to get the video card and the ram
and as for the cpu,

In passmark I got 7,325 with 4.2GHz.
Also
-2014
-still relying on Single Core performance :v:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-4130-vs-AMD-FX-6300 and http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/351/AMD_FX-Series_FX-6300_vs_Intel_Core_i3_i3-4130.html and http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i3-4340-4330-4130_5.html#sect0 The 4130 will perform better in most games, but like I said the 6300 is a better choice if you know multi threading is going to be important for what you need. But at this budget and for what he said he needs it the 4130 would perform better.
In passmark I got 7,325 with 4.2GHz.
Which is why I said unless you're planning on overclocking
As you can see they differ in terms of performance based on what the game requires, but even in tests where the amd was better it was better marginally.
