Hey, I'm not that into the brands and stuff, I know how to put parts together though. I need help choosing, I have a ~500 dollar price range.
I have a monitor/keyboard/mouse
I'm not really trying to be unhelpful by posting this, but right now isn't the best time to try and build a budget gaming PC. For whatever reason at least here in California (or Caliiiifornaa for Austrians) prices on Processors, GPUs, and Ram have gone through the roof. I would hold off until the prices on the i7/i5/i6 and most GPUs goes down a bit. That or expect to pay more than $500 for a decent gaming rig.
AMD is also an option for your CPU/Mobo, but the prices on newer GPUs will still kill you.
This is the kind of build I had in mind for a decent gaming rig I planned for a friend;

It's over your budget though. You could probably cut corners on the motherboard and GPU but it would only hurt performance.
You could also try a AMD motherboard/processor as that would also cut costs.
Also, what the hell happened to all the LGA775 CPUs? I know Intel doesn't manufacturer most of them anymore but why did they disappear so fast?
The cart doesn't show up for me. How much was that, anyways?

There uploaded as a pic instead.
It's $867.00 if shipping to Cal.
You can cut it down to about $700ish if you go with an AMD build instead.
Other than that you would have to go with a cheaper GPU and maybe less RAM.
What do you plan on doing for your OS?
I have windows 7 ultimate laying around. 64 bit, I believe

Yeah than you will probably want to get at least 4 gigs Ram since you have 64bit.
What do you plan on playing with the system? You could go with a much cheaper GPU
such as the GTS 250 or the Radeon 4850. You could also do a Dual Core AMD build
though I think nowadays you should be looking towards Quads, especially for gaming.
Yeah. The computer I'm currently using is out of date, but its a Quad.
I would love to upgrade, but HP designed their cases so its pretty much impossible.

What is your current build? Maybe you could upgrade individual parts rather than the whole system?
Ninja edited, check the edit.

Oh you ninja'd me! Dammit you did it twice, lol.
Well I'm off to bed, someone else will surly stumble in here. Goodnight, and good luck!
Yeah, its much cheaper to upgrade, but I'd have to buy a new case, and its really not worth it considering my stuff's going to be really out of date next year.

Everything's out of date in a few months time. By the time I bought my Q6600 and 4850, they already had i7 and then 5-8 months later had the 5xxx series.
