• Laptop rattled, is now fucking hot.

So earlier I was moving my laptop and I heard a loud rattle coming from it, I thought nothing of it and continued on. Then, the laptop froze and the screen turned off. So I held down the power button to turn it off, then I accidentally touched the bottom of it, and it was really hot. So I suspected that it overheated and left it to cool for a few minutes. When I turned it back on after letting it cool, everything was fine, so I ran speccy to see if it overheated and according to speccy, it told me that both my CPU and HDD were 50 degrees Celsius and up. 50 is normal for my HDD but usually my CPU is always under 30. Then it did the screen fadey thing again so I shut it off. I touched the bottom and SWEET JESUS IT WAS FUCKING HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually burnt my fingers from touching it. So I ask you, is there something wrong internally or is it just overheated? Right now it's sitting in my room off and cooling. So what is going on?
one of your fans might have broken off, and that explains the rattling and overheating. if you can, open it up and see if it did.

But the weird thing is, it's not rattling anymore. Also, if I do have to open it, do I need to take any precautions like with a desktop?
Its not rattling because your fan broke and stopped
Definitely sounds like a broken fan. Could be on the heatsink or somewhere else. Open it up, and for precautions just make sure you're grounded.

But how would I go about making sure that I am grounded?

This will reduce the risk of static discharge to almost zero.
Give any dust a clean out while you've got it open as well.

[editline]01:54PM[/editline] Just touch metal occasionally while you're working on it. Don't wear socks and rub your feet on carpet.
There's also a ton of screws on the bottom of my laptop that all look like they open different panels. Do I just unscrew all of them?
Opening laptops suck. I've done it a few times, and newer models are better than old usually, but they suck. You're probably going to have to unscrew every single one. TBH, if you're still under warranty, just send it in. Make sure you check under the keyboard, too.
Find a service manual for your laptop and it will have step by step instructions for disassembling it. Dell are good for this, They provide service manuals for everything free of charge. But availability of these manuals varies alot.
I just realized that it's still under warranty. Should I just send it in?
Yes.
I just realized that it's still under warranty. Should I just send it in?
What possible reason could there be for not sending it in?
