• a PC game controller that actually has a functioning dpad

holy crap i've spent the last four hours looking for a gamepad that had a functioning dpad and was shaped ergonomically. I've found shit like the JC-U3016F series which looks amazing and comfortable, except the DPAD does exactly what the analog stick does. The Dpads on most of the controllers i've found don't work. What I mean is when you press UP on the dpad, it doesn't do anything. or down, or left or right. But do you see that 'MODE'? when you press that, it makes all the configured binds from the left analog stick carry over to the DPAD, and make the left analog stick use the binds from the right one, making the right analog stick completely useless. This mode button makes it so the DPAD and analog stick function exactly the same except you can only use one at a time. you cannot give the dpad a specific function to itself, it will be carried over to the analog stick. this is fucking annoying. so I can't switch blocks in minecraft, or switch weapons in GTA IV unless i bind it to L1 and R1. or something. it's so pointless. I'm asking if one of you fpers knows of a gamepad that ACTUALLY HAS A FUNCTIONING DPAD and is at least somewhat ergonomic and feels good to hold. oh and not super expensive. Help?
You can use a PS3 controller if you have one and bluetooth on your PC, but you have to jump through some hoops. Some controllers have a switch that lets you change from DirectInput to XInput with a switch, I would recommend one of those. That way it will work with older games, and with ones that natively support the xbox 360 style controllers (like Big Picture mode on Steam, or a lot of modern PC ports). Personally I use a wireless xbox 360 adapter dongle, but the dpad isn't great.

Why not an Xbox 360 controller? It's officially supported by almost every game out there and the layout is pretty nice
Why not an Xbox 360 controller? It's officially supported by almost every game out there and the layout is pretty nice
I've used a wired one from MadCatz and it works fine.
Why not an Xbox 360 controller? It's officially supported by almost every game out there and the layout is pretty nice
It's a really comfortable controller too IMO.
Why not an Xbox 360 controller? Like that alone damages the entire controller. Want to click on the right side of the D-Pad? Let me just click the bottom and top ones as well.
Why not an Xbox 360 controller? Just get an F710 or something, it supports directinput and xinput so for all intents and purposes it's just a 360 controller with a good d-pad. No support issues. [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] or whatever the wired version of that was, I can't remember.

IMO the 360 D-pad worked better than the PS-1/2's D-pad.
I dont know where youre buying your controllers. I bought one for 5€ at a chinese wholesale warehouse, so its as shit as it gets. The Dpad works perfectly and when you press the Mode button the analog has its different binds. The only thing is that instead of the Dpad problem I have the same problem on the right side of the controller. My right analog does the same as X O square and triangle.
Use a PS3 controller and find the drivers for it online. You can download Joy2Key and it runs it as a gamepad.
I have a madcatz 360 controller and its dpad is all good

Impossible to play games with.
i have three of these: it's a logitech f310, it's pretty nice basically a ps3/xbox [sp]ripoff[/sp] hybrid

The triggers are awful when other things were made for the Xbox controller. They work more like L2/R2 on a DualShock than a trigger. If you're settling on a Logitech, go big for the F710, which is wireless and rumbles (F510 is out of production, wired and rumbles).
I have a razer onza myself. [T]http://assets.razerzone.com/eeimages/products/68/razer-onza-te-gallery-2.png[/T] This d-pad might be easier to use. Plus, the buttons press like a mouse click and the analog sticks have adjustable resistance. It feels really nice to use. They go for around $50, I believe.
