Hey guys! Can you do me a quick favor? I have this old PC sitting in my laundry room with not so good specs, and I seen my dad on the treadmill watching Hulu. We have a huge TV with no VGA inputs. So I want a VGA to HDMI, or, those component Red Yellow White Blue Green ends. As cheap as possible please, around 15 dollars.
is that even possible?
I know of DVI to HDMI... those cords are around 20$ at walmart.. (http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-HDMI-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B001TH7T2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292547748&sr=8-1) cheeper online but have to pay shipping unless your prime..
or you could spend 30$ on a new gfx card with hdmi built in, thats if your PC has pci-e (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-nVidia-GeForce-PCI-Express-512-P3-1212-LR/dp/B0033PROLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292547787&sr=8-1)
VGA is analog and HDMI is digital
in addition, HDMI carries sound and VGA doesn't
this will not be as easy as you'd like to think
in addition to what Lazor said the VGA to HDMI converts are quite expensive, looks like you have to do quite a bit to convert it to digital http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Converter-Adapter-VGA2HDMI-Warehouseseller/dp/B0020S7CHE
how about this

oh wow disregard this
If possible, just by a new GPU for the old PC. Even cheap video cards have DVI out, and from there, you can buy a DVI-HDMI adapter.
It can't be done with an adapter, you need a converter box. You will never find one for $15 that works worth a shit.
Here is one at $53.47.
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-RCA-Component-AV-Converter/dp/B002WBOQPU
OP if you plan on buying a converter box for $50 might as well buy a 5450 for $40 (or $25 w/ rebate)

It has a built-in HDMI port with audio

Just anyway for a Radeon X1600 to go onto my TV for a low cost.

And/Or HDMI to VGA
Oops..
I didn't see ANYTHING about HMDI in the OP... Maybe I'm reading it wrong?
I know some good optometrists, if you want some recommendations.

Why not VGA to Component? Since that might be what he needs?
And OP, Wanna buy mine off me for cheap?

VGA to Component cord.
That looks more like an VGA-to-RGBHV lead than a VGA-YPbPr, which is an entirely different animal and not useful in this case.
Also, the x1600 should have a DVI output, use that and then any old cheap DVI-HDMI adapter can be used.
That looks more like an VGA-to-RGBHV lead than a VGA-Component which is an entirely different animal and not useful in this case. The main different been that Component has the sync data in the "green" channel (Which isn't actually "Green".
Eh... Explain? I don't understand...
Eh... Explain? I don't understand...
In layman's terms, it uses too many cables and will not work.
Component only uses 3 cables. VGA uses 5 in that cable you showed.

Oh, I understand... But i have used it before, for what the OP has stated his needs...
Are you sure? - Most HDTVs have a Y-Pb-Pr (3 leads) component input which expects a sync signal on "Y". the lead above has the sync on 2 extra leads. (Making 5 leads) beyond that the signalling is completely different.
Of course if you had it plugged into a HDTV that by chance did have R-G-B-H-V input then yes it would work. but that is far from a normal input to see on a HDTV (Unless this has changed, I have only owned 2 HDTVs)
If I understand correctly the OP just wants to get a computer to display on a HDTV that has no VGA input. He explains he has an x1600 which leaves 2 options:
ATI Component "Dongle"
DVI-HDMI Adapter

The 3 cables (red/green/blue) are the only ones I used. The packaging said the other 2 (red/yellow) were audio. Yes, I am confused too. I thought VGA only transmitted video?
I thought VGA only transmitted audio?
Um.... what?
