• GPU Overheating

So my cousin gave me his GTX 280 after he got the 6970 and everything was fine for awhile and now whatever game I run my gpu reaches load temperatures over 100 degrees. Only way to play without going so high is for me to run my GPU fan at 100% and so I have been doing that for awhile, is it relatively safe to run my fan at 100% for long periods of time while I game? When it's idle it is around 50-60 degrees. Is there a problem with the card and if so how would I fix it from going that high in temperature?
Update drivers, clean out the card, and don't play games on all high it really stresses the card. Also the card may just be getting old, that's why your cousin got rid of it.

I'll try with just not playing on all high until I get a new card but the temperature is fine all high as long as my fan speed is set to 100% while I game, which brings me back to one of the questions I have in the OP is that is it safe to keep it running on 100% for long periods of time while I am gaming?
