Fastest Steam Download Servers? - Hardware & Software

HI there, JUst wondering, does anyone know what is the best country to connect to to download Steam games? I live in Scotland but I found that connecting to Sweden's servers made my download speeds increase. Just wanting to know if anyone has a particular preference that might be better than Sweden's. I'm on 152mb internet but my download tops out at about 5-6MB per second and that's just over wifi, plugging in to unlock the full speed makes no change - therefore is 5-6MB per second the most that Steam Servers can generally handle?

just because you have 152mb dl =/= 152mb a sec dl. look at the conversions for megabits to megabytes, i can't remember off my head

Yeah I know megabits are different from Megabytes but the speed I get over Wifi is 50mbps, Steam download being average 5.5MB/s. Now considering the difference between Wireless(50mbps) and Wired(152mbps), I'd expect the downloads to jump a fair bit higher but they average out 6-8 MB/s with the peak being 10. 152mbps = 19MB/s so while I don't expect steam to be the full 19MB/s I would have thought it might of been about 12MB/s

Well, don't you usually pick the nearest? If not, try setting it to Frankfurt in Germany, everything there is usually pretty fast and stable. It's popular for hosting servers for a lot of things

I manage to get 12MB/s at the manchester server, give that one a try

Usually plugging into remote servers at times of large game releases as well as servers where it's night where you currently are mean that you can avoid the most overloaded servers but I haven't had much luck finding the "fastest" server out there because it's all up to server load

However I Set steam to go download 120gb worth of games and seems the longer it went on the more stable it got up until a point where it would even stabilize around 17-19 with 19.2 being my peak. I never managed to get anything close to that on the Manchester server. I'll give Frankfurt a go and see if that gives more consistent results but that streak of maxed out downloading last night came as a pleasant surprise - I'll most likely stick to the Sweden server.
