Basically, I was absent since Wednesday, and after being unbanned I noticed really strange stuff around forums, but couldn't put my finger on it.
Today, I noticed DOTA 2 thread in General Games Discussion, and a brief glance across main forum I've noticed that lots of boards have disappeared?
What happened?

I'm pretty sure you mean the old layout right? Because we've had that layout for years.
I'm not entirely sure what the reason was, to me it seems somewhat stupid. Even if a section is not super active, it organizes everything much better. I think it's feasible to remove some subforums, like a drugs subforum. Just throw guitar, drugs etc into a hobby forum.
Creationism corner was pretty neat though.
You'll just have to get used to everything being in GD now.
There's a compromise being hammered out right now, according to the mods, so I'd wait and see what might happen. I feel it could honestly have been handled better, but then this is kind of FP's trademark anyway whenever change takes place :v:
Garry went ahead and wiped a bunch of stuff, and let the shitstorm/confusion happen afterwards. That way, it got done and there wasn't anything anyone could do about it, because he already did it.
He only told the mods shortly before doing it.
Don't be too worried though, they're working on it. What I've gathered from mods is that there's a lot of changes coming, and they're going to be good for the boards. In the big thread about it a few mods pretty much said "some stuff will come back, in different forms." It might mean a broad hobby forum or things being organized differently. I don't think there's been a lot of details released yet, though.
Think of it as a positive thing. For now, a lot of the threads in the now-deceased boards should be found here, outside of really small threads. DAAS, Music board threads, TV/Movies threads, should be found in General Discussion. It'll all fall into place.

Some sort of compromise is being worked out. Don't expect the mods to publically show any dissenting opinion, they're paid to agree with Garry.
