I'm upgrading my CPU, specifically with this
Two questions: Is that good for that price, and will it fit into an AM2+ socket? I would imagine most sockets are backwards compatible.
We need your motherboard model.
get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871&cm_re=athlon_640-_-19-103-871-_-Product instead
depends on your mobo and whether there's a BIOS update that adds am3 support

Pegatron M2N68-LA

Disagree, $20 gift card and free BC2 is worth more than 100 mhz, imo.
oh didn't see the 635 came with extras, stick with that then
It most likely won't work. It supports a max of 89 TDP, the CPU is 95. And it's an HP motherboard, so it likely wouldn't work any way.
You could possibly find a better 89 or lower TDP AM2+ CPU, or upgrade your motherboard as well.

If you decide to go with upgrading your motherboard, and need help, please tell us what RAM you have (DDR2 800?) - and what GPU you have. You should be able to get one for around 50 - or you could get a slightly worse CPU with a motherboard for the same price (x3 Rana @ 3.2 Ghz is only $104 with a motherboard!).

I'm really not sure. It's still AM3, and I don't know if AM3 will work. HP/Dell, etc, stuff sucks and they don't have the greatest documentation.
that works if you can get a BIOS update for the mobo that supports AM3 CPUs
but you have a prebuild mobo so there's a low chance of there being one

Pegatron? judging by the name that should be marketed under the ASUS name. should be a lower end NFORCE4 board

Are you entirely sure? It says nothing here about needing an upgrade.
you don't need a bios update, not for the M2N68 boards
