I like aiming over shoulder just for style points, but it's definitely worse than first person in terms of actually making things deader.

How so? In third person you don't have a gun in your face blocking your view.

1.) Instead it's your character in the way but now instead of missing space in the middle it's on the side which limits your how much shit you can see left to right, which is pretty much always more important in shooters than up/down.
2.) Because your camera is behind your character you're also further from the target
3.) Harder to see what you're doing in close quarters
4.) There's probably more shit of varying debatability but I'm tired and since we're talking about a Fallout game made by Bethesda in this case I'd just like to point out that thirdperson accuracy in these games gets very easily fucked up and specifically in FO3/NV/4 you really shouldn't use TP over FP. If we were talking about something like MGSV it'd be different but in 4 specifically doing something like alt-tabbing can fuck your third-person accuracy forcing you to miss shots.
1. Negative, with the gun blocking your view of things like radroaches approaching you, you have to aim down and back up again to see if you're still aiming at it.
2. You have a larger FOV, unless you're sniping this isn't an issue.
3. If you mean inside tight corridors I'll give you that one.
4. Dunno what you mean I don't have this issue. The games have aim assist so if you're missing it's probably due to spread.
third person accuracy in a bethesda game is about as good as optimization in fallout 4
it isn't.
try walking infront of someone in fallout: new vegas for example and aim for their head
every shot will go literally right past them
i wouldnt be surprised if fallout 4 wasnt exempt from this occurance
I use 3rd person for better situational awareness when roaming around, but immediately switch to 1st person when shit's going down.
The only bad part about third-person is that your accuracy isn't as good as in first-person. I actually used third person very early in the game to attack faster enemies and shoot them in their weak points much easier, because with first person it seemed to be more difficult.
Even if you're aiming directly at somebody with a high accuracy weapon, there is still a chance the shot will go wild because third-person isn't as accurate as aiming down your sight in first-person view even if you're aiming in third-person. It's weird.
If there is anything I want from a mod, it's making third-person accuracy as accurate as first-person.
From a purely competitive standpoint third person is pretty handily better than first person chiefly due to situational awareness and depending on the game a more open reticle. In most games where you have the option of both the con of third person is piss poor long range accuracy, haven't played third person in FO4 enough to know if that's the case, though.
Third Person in my Fallout 4 experiences is a mixed bag.
One good thing about it, when sneaking I can zoom out to mimic a pseudo cover system view on the world.
The big elephant in the room however is when you start shooting.
On one hand it sometimes works as intended and gives me real good situational awareness of the ongoing battle.
The other hand I try to stealth kill someone by shooting a few rounds into their face, but instead my guy shoots at the approximate area of what my curser is telling me should be the enemy's face. Which instantly alerts them and possibly their friends nearby.
Kind of reminds me of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. If you just press right click and aim at someone, you sometimes shoot the thing infront of you like a wall unless you press right click twice to get the person experience. I seem to only use third person in PUBG whenever I am walking around or looking for someone after hearing footsteps.
Third person in fo4 is shit for shooting because its not designed well around it, like it is in Dead Space / MGS5 / etc
that and they're more experienced in melee based games where aim isn't really a thing
plus, since its not really designed right, it doesn't really feel quite comfortable to me. FO4 it feels like I'm controlling the camera rather than the character/gun, if that makes any sense. Most likely because its made for controllers before mice. The character is simply centered on the crosshair, but you're really just controlling the camera. While in Dead Space it feels like I'm controlling the character rather than just the camera.

Yeah the correction goes wonky at close range, it tries firing out front instead off to the side where the reticle is. If you take a few steps back its fine. However at close range like that yeah first person is better.

What do you mean it feels like controlling the character?
