Whenever I go to minecraft.net it redirects to formspring, does this occur to anyone else? And whenever I try playing, it updates the game and it leaves an error message of "Fatal Error Occurred (4): Unable to download xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html retrieving: minecraft.jar 82% @ 65.87Kb/sec" Help, please? [editline]8th February 2011[/editline] Help, anyone? [editline]8th February 2011[/editline] I think someone hijacked me browser. Though it only affects minecraft.net, weird.
Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and paste the contents.
Alright, I've opened it up with notepad
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost
Try these, one at a time: 1. Open command prompt, type
ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
2. Check your DNS settings, if possible use google dns. Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Adapter Settings > Right-click your connection > Properties > IPv4 > Properties and make it like so: 3. Your router might have been hijacked, try resetting it to factory settings (usually a button on the back of it).
Second step worked for me, much appreciated! Also, I've done a scan whilst this was happening and it showed 1 number of infiltration. I was scanning with a Nod32 Anti virus. Is it safe to assume that everything's alright?
