I'm looking for good space games. I have the X series but I would like some with planet exploration/colonization if possible. And what is everyone's opinion of Space Rangers 2? I know it sounds stupid but it looks fun, although the demo didn't convince me much, I haven't wrapped my head around it yet.
Depends on what type of space game you're looking for. Galactic Civilizations II is a great 4x space game, Sins of a Solar Empire is a pretty good RTS one. I haven't played the X series but if it's anything like Freespace or EVE you might be interested in those. Although Freespace is a tad on the old side.
I hear EVE is good.
EVE is pretty good, you just have to make sure to do some research on your training decisions before you go through with them otherwise you could end up screwing yourself over.
I don't want something like EVE, I don't like monthly subscriptions and it seems more economy based than I'd ever want. I don't understand the entire concepts of 4X games but that one does look decent. Sins looks fun, but the only thing I can find digitally is the Trilogy pack thing which is around $20 more than I want to spend right now.
Space Station 13.
-snip-
Sins is pretty good. 4x are pretty strategy based but GalCiv is easily one of the best and easiest to understand. (Also the newest one I've seen.) If you can find Sins without the expansions anywhere, it should only be about $20 which is a perfectly fair price.

Yeah I'd go $20 without thinking if it was good. That's why I was looking at this "Space Rangers 2". Sins looks like it is more macro-based which might get confusing.
The Ur Quan Masters.
Dead Space?
Master of Orion (1 and 2, don't even look at 3).

I went ahead and got Space Rangers 2, I think next I'm going to try to get Sins then maybe Darkstar One. Thanks for the suggestions. I've played Star Control II as well, and the remake is pretty nice for those times when I'm bored and all I have is my terrible-at-playing-games laptop.

There's a remake of Star Control II? I had that years ago but never got a chance to beat it.
