Well the thing is, that the keys vary depending on what version of XP that you have.
I've got a key for Windows 95 though.
I've got an XP key, but it'd be warez to give it.

That's not actually true. Unless it's an OEM key from the side of your computer, but that wouldn't activate anyway.
If anyone here has Windows 7 Ultimate, download the XP emulator as it comes with a key for free. :D
I have Ultimate and the XP emulator, where do I find the key?

The product key is certification of a contract between you and Microsoft, you can pass (non-OEM) keys from person to person, but it's illegal, at least under the U.S. law, I have no idea what the law says about it in my own country.

Not quite. The key is only an anti piracy measure. What you actually purchase is a license to use the software which is transferable (otherwise it'd be illegal to sell computers with windows installed second hand).
I have an MSDN account that I can render keys with for you, convince me to give you one and it's yours for anything but Windows 7 Ultimate.

I'll have to look at this MSDN... seen it before but never really poked around.

Look into TechNet Standard: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/bb892756.aspx
If you're a student, look into DreamSpark, it's basically a free MSDN subscription: https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

But with less operating systems and more things we could get free anyway.

Ive done that many times. It activates fine. What the hell are you on.

No.... no it doesn't. If it does, it's a retail key, or you're activating it on the same computer that the key was provided for. Or you are using an OEM disc from a company like Dell which doesn't do silly things with activation if you're putting it on one of their machines.
