• DIY Laptops?

I want a new laptop for when I go to Uni. One that can replace my PC when it comes to entertainment - I'm probably not going to take my computer with me. Gaming laptops are always really fucking expensive, but building my own doesn't phase me. If I were to buy the parts for a laptop and build it myself, would it be any cheaper, as it is with building desktop computers? I was looking at this barebones laptop with this HDD, two of these RAM sticks and this CPU. Should make for a beasty laptop :D Except I wanted to know whether I could get a 'gaming standard' barebones kit for cheaper, because I'll have upto £1,000 to spend (yay for summer jobs), really... I don't want to spend it all on a laptop either. The least that setup would cost me would be £1,025... It a good idea, or a bad one? Opinions, opinions!
I think you can actually do it cheaper by buying prebuilt:http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921666069165&categoryId=8198552921644692000 This is American prices, so try find it yourself on a UK sony site.
Same if not better specs then the sony prebuilt, for cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114803
That is a pretty good deal and both of the laptops you guys have posted do not have nearly the graphics power.
I don't think you can DIY a laptop
you can, but it often ends up more expensive than buying a prebuilt. One of the few situations where it's better to buy a prebuilt than a custom

I'll give you some advice. Don't get a laptop you won't really use it much. Just bring your desktop.
You really cant do a DIY laptop due to the proprietary designs in the clamshell factor. You can however upgrade the CPU, and in some cases the GPU as well. And of course RAM and HDD. But that is all.

I don't like the design on the thing though. There actually stands you get a CPU with it, but can you switch it, I know you can in most laptops, but check it out..
