• Can't access (or take ownership) of a folder I made
    7 replies, posted
Long story short, I made a folder for all my raw pictures, and now my computer won't let me access the folder. I try to get into it, and a message window pops up as follows: [I]"[Window Title] Raw canon photos [Main Instruction] You don't currently have permission to access this folder. [Content] Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder. [Continue] [Cancel][/I] I then click continue, and another message window pops up: [I][Window Title] Raw canon photos [Main Instruction] You have been denied permission to access this folder. [Content] To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab. [Close][/I] I have tried changing the ownership to myself, and I have tried copying the folder to a different drive. No luck either way. I am completely locked out of this folder and its contents, [B]which are quite important to me.[/B] I've even tried going into safe mode to try and change the ownership, no luck. I am completely stumped, and desperate for a solution. Any ideas?
Ownership as in properties -> security -> advanced, and changing the owner there?
Tried that already, no luck. [editline]29th June 2014[/editline] [I]--------------------------- Windows Security --------------------------- Unable to set new owner on Raw canon photos. Access is denied. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- [/I]
Are you on an administrator account?
Yup. My account is the only account on the computer
What operating system are you on? [editline]30th June 2014[/editline] Also try turning off any sort of file sharing in the OS. That has been known to cause some odd issues with permissions. And try manually changing read/write permissions for your user account for the folder.
I'm on Win 7 Premium. What exactly do you mean by manually changing read/write permissions? Are you talking about the check box in the properties of the folder I'm trying to access?
Fixed it, I used Iobit Unlocker to unlock and copy it to a different drive. Still can't access the original folder, but I can access the new one.
