1080p sucks now tbh. Can't imagine going back
For gaming on a 144Hz screen 1080p is still fine. Although I would say that 27" kinda stretches it for 1080p. For 27" I would rather have 1440p or more due to pixel density.
1080p sucks now tbh. Can't imagine going back
Good luck finding a 1440p+ 144Hz monitor with 1ms response time that doesn't break the bank. If it exists at all.
why the curved monitors? I don't see any practical reason for it.
why the curved monitors? I don't see any practical reason for it.
When you start hitting ultrawide it becomes useful. You have the same desktop space available, with a slightly lower footprint from the monitor, and the furthest points of the display face you slightly more (potentially removing any weird colour artefacts). It's not useful for your bog standard 21" 1080p screens really.

I have the 24" version of this monitor, and while I think it's fantastic for what it is, boy is getting a good one a lottery. Basically, Samsung fucked up and the monitor has a number of issues in models manufactured before November. Specifically the monitor will be inoperable on displayport after the video device goes asleep, forcing you to unplug and replug the monitor from power, and it also has TERRIBLE pixel overdrive artifacts. If you can get one manufactured in or after November, it's a fucking fantastic monitor, but if you can't, go somewhere else. [editline]24th March 2017[/editline]
1080p sucks now tbh. Can't imagine going back
It's all about tradeoffs, there aren't many IPS (or other 99-100% sRGB covering panel tech) monitors that are high res, and have high refresh rate, for less than $700. This monitor isn't super pixel dense, but has great color (100% sRGB coverage), great refresh rate (144), and doesn't break the bank (Normally $350 for the 24"); so this is a perfectly good monitor for games that also looks good.
All this debate and I'm still using two 720p monitors. :pudge:
1080p sucks now tbh. Can't imagine going back
Pretty sure it's just as good as it was...

I fucking love it but...The lack of expanded freesync and the overdrive artifacts are a slight bummer. I really don't want to play the RMA game (I tried once, got another Sept model :v:) so I'm just sticking with it. I somehow don't have the displayport issue. Kind of dumb considering there's a Service port on the back, I don't understand why I couldn't just update the firmware myself... But other than that, this monitor is fucking fantastic. It has better contrast than most IPS panels I see, the colours are just as great and vivid, the refresh rate is indeed high and super smooth, the curve is subtle enough to not be annoying but it does kind of help immersion a bit. The display is bright as fuck and will likely blind you in a dark room :v:
Having used both, I would rather have 144hz 1080p than 60hz 1440p.

According to the Reddit comments it can't use maximum settings in terms of resolution, depth and refresh rate at the same time due to transfer speed limitations. It also has a ridiculous case. I hope that's not actually a projector in the base.
Good luck finding a 1440p+ 144Hz monitor with 1ms response time that doesn't break the bank. If it exists at all.
I just got one for $500

I played the RMA game, pro-tip: order directly from Samsung and you're very likely to get a later model. And yeah, it's a great monitor, aside from the overdrive issues, in terms of color it's the best gaming-oriented monitor you can get. [editline]26th March 2017[/editline]
I just got one for $500
But the color reproduction :disappoint:
Color is perfect after basic tweaking.
What model is the monitor? [editline]26th March 2017[/editline] Just saying I doubt it's IPS, it's probably TN, and most TN panels are actually 6-bit panels; so you can do all the tweaking in the world but you're not getting accurate sRGB spectrum.
The Dell S2716DG monitor is 1440p, 144hz, G-Sync, and has a 1ms response time for (what I bought it for) $440, The only thing You really sacrifice with it is color quality but its not hard to get it back to a decent contrast etc using nvidias control panels (the monitors onboard settings are complete garbage) So yeah it does exist, and (atleast that one) isn't horribly expensive.
TN panel. With a shit ton of tweaking I got my monitor to good color accuracy, gamma is still shit though (1.6 instead of 2.2), its a futile effort.

Doesn't change the fact that it exists. IPS is with the sacrifices imo.
