Like title says i need a program where i can rip movie dvds from my collection to put them on my laptop. This is so that I can watch them on the go without carrying around a bunch of cases. If this is the wrong section please move.
ImgBurn is what I use.
ImgBurn is what I use.
If there is any protection whatsoever on the DVD ImgBurn will just spit out big fat errors. Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) combined with DVD43 (http://www.dvd43.com/) is the way I roll but there's lots of different software out there.
thanks I'll check them out.
FFMpeg/MPlayer, MKVToolnix, lsdvd, and some Python to glue it all together.

Handbrake is amazing.

Handbrake is open source and great. Dead useful. ImgBurn is also good, btu as said above any protection and it will just error you.
Handbrake doesn't decrypt by itself...you'll need AnyDVD or DVD43 to do that for you. (Why is DVD43 only for 32-bit Operating Systems???)
(Why is DVD43 only for 32-bit Operating Systems???)
Lazy programmers.
DVDShrink in combo with some other programs should do the trick.
"some other programs" Such as?..
(Why is DVD43 only for 32-bit Operating Systems???)
Its because 64 bit Windows requires signed drivers. If they want the driver signed they need to contact Microsoft, since Microsoft is based in the United States and it is illegal to circumvent copyright protection in the US they don't want to potentially get in hot water because of it.

Rated informative. [editline]07:11PM[/editline] Wait, it's not illegal to do it anymore if it's for educational purposes...I smell a potential loophole.
DVDShrink

You can copy protected retail discs in Linux without any problems. Linux Mint can do it by default. (and can be done using the LiveCD) I use Nero Linux 4 for all my copying needs, and it never fails me. [editline]05:54PM[/editline] In Windows, however... I use AnyDVD HD paired with Nero Recode. Shrinks DVDs down to 4.3GB without noticable quality, and in half the time DVDShrink does.
Handbrake + AnyDVD
http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/
Doesn't work for ANY newer DVDs with the read-error protection. Which includes most of them.
