• How to fix Windows 10 from a Windows 10 USB?

I think something went wrong during a Windows 10 update, because now when Windows boots up I just get a black screen and it's totally unresponsive. I have a Windows 10 USB installer, so I was hoping I could fix it using that. I tried the "Startup Repair" option but that just says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC". Unfortunately I don't have a system restore point, so that isn't an option. I can run the command prompt and look around on the hard drive, but I don't know any sort of useful command I could run. I would like to boot into safe mode to see if that helps but the only guides I can find on that topic are for rebooting into safe mode once your computer is already started. I tried hitting F8 a lot during boot but that still just gets me to the black screen. Any ideas?
So can you get to this menu to get into safe mode?
If you’ve installed Windows 10 via a disc or USB, you can boot straight into recovery mode by inserting said disc/USB before turning your system on. Choose your keyboard layout, followed by Repair Your Computer, in the bottom-left of the screen. From here you can head to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options where you’ll find System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, and Go Back to the Previous Build.
After that, even if advanced startup isn't there, you can enter "bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy" (no quotes) into the command line to enable tapping F8 to get to the advanced bootup options shortcut.
Well I never managed to get safe mode to start, but after restarting a bunch of times (due to failed attempts) it fixed itself? I don't know.
The black screen happens because a fresh install of W10 does not have GPU drivers, so you have to switch to integrated GPU if it doesn't do that by itself.

They are terrible and only work up to 1280x1024 but they work regardless.
