Is it worth it? been considering for awhile, just waiting for a sale.

As a linear game: yes, if you can deal with a bad cliffhanger ending.
As an open world game: No, there is absolutely nothing to do in the main game. The DLC Jimmy's Vendetta is more like an open world game but it lacks story elements.

The first Mafia was amazing, a true masterpiece. This one is pretty mediocre. It looks pretty and plays really nice at first but the story gets worse as you progress and there isn't much to do anyway.
I didn't enjoy the game that much, also beware of a horrible ending.

I bought it at launch and it was a pretty good game, but has next to no replay value.
Also even if you can explore the world, why would you want to? There is nothing to do.

That mafia 2 multiplayer mod is alright. Not sure if its had any progress since it released though.
This one has a nice atmosphere to it

It's kinda like the first game (which you should also consider). It's an open world despite a lack of an open world stuff.

oh shit they removed Mafia 1 from steam.
good game, really enjoyable
ragequit on the last mission though, too hard
Wow what? I just noticed the first Mafia disapeared from steam.
Yeah, Mafia 1 was removed from Steam a while ago and it pisses me off.
As for Mafia 2, gameplay and graphics are of course improved. The story is alright except for the abrupt ending which makes you wonder if a mission or two are missing. In base game there's nothing to do outside of story missions. Extreme ride from Mafia 1 with it's hilarious missions doesn't make a return.
its nice if you think of it as a linear game instead of an open world one imo
