Oh just let the OS die already.
Anyone who doesn't realise the validity and requirement of these older more refined Operating Systems hasn't had the Education or Work Experience associated with their use. Alternatively they are purposely being stupid. Windows XP is an even more improved version of 2000 (Uses same codebase) and 2000 is mighty fine OS.
Oh just let the OS die already.
Well I've got great news for you then

I feel really old because I remember when Windows XP was first released, and downloading it on my shotgunned 56k dialup connection

Vista(With Updates) is a better XP, and 7 is a better Vista. With 8 Your Mileage May Vary, MS isn't pushing 7 out of the spotlight as much as they normally do.

Windows XP was great back in the day, but nowadays it's terrible. It's not optimized for newer hardware, it lacks support for DX10/11, it's no longer updated apart from security updates and it just needs to die. Either migrate to 7/8/Vista SP3 (In that preferred order), GNU/Linux or OSX Mavericks.

Calm down, people. whatthe's just stating his opinion on XP and 2000. No need to get buttstrated over outdated operating systems. But yeah, if you're migrating away from XP, pick Windows 7. Stay the hell away from Windows 8.
The only place for XP right now is in older computers of VMs. Soon all support will die out, and developers will stop making apps for it. Vista offers a similar GUI to Windows XP, so that's what I would upgrade to if I ran XP.
um, you do realise tons of resources are spent making things compatible for xp? its a 10 year old os which has more security holes than swiss cheese
I personally think swiss cheese would stand up well against a hacking attempt.
Windows 8 is a fucking great OS. You just need some time to adapt to it. And holy shit it is faster than W7 like 2 times.
XP still is being used on schools and such because it's piss cheap compared to getting 7 / 8.1 (I don't exactly know how it is for schools but I can't imagine them buying the OS for each computer they have)
its a 10 year old os which has more security holes than swiss cheese
Right, it's somehow the only OS with this problem.
XP makes a great PoS OS. That's about it, though.
I love XP, something about that start menu and that blue bar and the hills background just gives me the chills. Sad to see it dying though :(
Right, it's somehow the only OS with this problem.
one is being patched constantly one wont be very shortly
Security firm FireEye has been credited with finding the bug that lets an attacker piggyback on a known flaw in some older versions of Adobe Reader. Via the Adobe bug, the FireEye researchers found evidence that attackers were able to "escalate" the access they were granted to the system to eventually allow them to install their own code.
It's not an XP bug. It's an adobe bug.
I love XP, something about that start menu and that blue bar and the hills background just gives me the chills. Sad to see it dying though :(
Have to agree with you there, there has not been a windows release other than XP and maybe 95 where the default UI produced a holy shit moment in terms of good, modern design (at the time)
one is being patched constantly one wont be very shortly
Neither will the other OS after a few years.
Neither will the other OS after a few years.
are you really using that argument? difference is XP is going to be cut soon, and will be a virus wonderland. infact, it already is one and XP support is starting to die away. so, why NOT switch to the ones that are more up to date, more secure, and will remain up to date for a good few more years?
If you are still using XP in 2013, you should reconsider your life choices.

I don't miss XP at all, and ever want another xp what I want is another windows 7 at the same time, windows 8 is just as good, maybe even better. My desttop is clean and I have a very well organized windows button menu letting me use so much shit so easily. start menu in windows 8 is way better than the start menu in 7 and below any day. Instead of having to minimize shit I flick 2 fingers and very swiftly get exactly what I need that being said XP was amazing but the difference between XP and 7 is too immense to care about it.
It's not an XP bug. It's an adobe bug.
An adobe bug that only affects Xp machines
My desttop is clean and I have a very well organized windows button menu letting me use so much shit so easily.
Are you one of those idiots who have all that screen space but have nothing on their desktop?
