Hi, I posted here recently asking what new parts I should get to upgrade a pre-built computer I bought about 3 months ago, regretfully. Now the parts have arrived but I have reached a hitch. I'm attempting to upgrade my MOBO/CPU/RAM. I do not have a windows installation disk as it came pre-installed on the computer. After contacting HP I find out I have a OEM version of Windows. He told me I should have modified the computer before purchase? WTF. So What do I need to do to transfer windows to my new motherboard? I was told by HP it would not work as well as read a few forums and such saying it would not work. That I needed a retail version of Windows? Is my only option to purchase a new windows license? :/

If you can get a hold of a Windows installation disc (or make your own) then you should be able to use your OEM key during installation.
how do you make your own? and could I even though I've activated this computer? Isnt the software key tied to THIS motherboard?
Just use the Windows 8 Release Preview until 8 comes out. That is what I am using, and it is fast and stable. (the upgrade to the release W8 will cost $40 for a while after it comes out.
