I don't seem to remember it saying anywhere that funds made from early access have to be used towards the early access game in question. People are starting to get Kickstarter and Early Access confused which is understandable, they're both awful systems.

a lot of people have this idea where they think the money they put into something goes directly back into it so more money = better product, which has never ever been the case for any game or product ever made. what people don't realize is that a game is actually designed and then sold, not the other way around
