Well several reports have said that apple are going to be hosting an event towards the end of this month.
FOXNews.com claims to have received confirmation from a "source inside Apple" that the company will in fact be holding a media event on January 26th in San Francisco. According to the source, the "big" event will focus on the "mobility space", suggesting an iPhone, iPod touch, or, as many people expect, tablet announcement.

The Financial Times reports that it has received word that Apple has scheduled a special media event for Tuesday, January 26th in San Francisco. The event will reportedly be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, site of the company's music-focused events held each fall in recent years.
Also, there has been word of a new tablet being released. This tablet has supposedly been in the works for many years now.
Sources in a position to know tell me Apple (AAPL) is indeed planning a media event later this month at which it will announce a major new product. The gathering is to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, a space Apple often uses for media events like these. According to other sources, it will occur on Wednesday Jan. 27, not Tuesday Jan. 26, as had been rumored.

According to the report, the SDK will include a "simulator" to assist developers in adapting their existing App Store applications to support the tablet's screen resolution. The deployment of tools for supporting multiple screen resolutions could also pave the way for a higher-resolution iPhone in the future.
Also, Intel are supposed to be releasing new Arrandale mobile chips which could be used in the new Macbook pros (If released)
The embargo is up for news and reviews on Intel's new Arrandale mobile processors. Arrandale represents the 32-nm die shrink of the Nehalem processors and will represent the first Nehalem processors that are usable in a laptops such as the MacBook Pro. These new chips also offer improved integrated graphics on the same chip. While there was some unconfirmed talk that Apple may skip this generation of chips, they remain the best option to upgrade the MacBook Pro. Anandtech provides an overview of the newly announced chips which run as fast as 2.66GHz (Dual Core) as a base speed with Turbo speeds as high as 3.33GHz. Direct comparisons of the 2.53GHz Arrandale and the 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo currently used in the MacBook Pro showed notable improvements at the same clock speed
Personally, I think the MacBook Pros will be updated. I'm not too sure about the apple tablet, but It is possible. I also think that the Mac Pro could receive the new 6 core chips from intel. Discuss what you think/want to happen. ~UPDATE~
The Wall Street Journal reports (subscription required) that while Apple is expected to introduce its tablet device at a media event reportedly scheduled for later this month, the tablet will not begin shipping until March. Apple Inc. plans to unveil a new multimedia tablet device later this month, but doesn't plan on shipping the product until March, people briefed by the company said. While the shipping time hasn't been finalized and could change, people briefed on the matter said the new tablet device will come with a 10- to 11-inch touch screen. The report also details information received from a source indicating that Apple has been working with two different materials for the device's casing, although it is unknown whether it plans to release models with both types. One of the people briefed on the matter added that Apple was working on two different material finishes for the tablet, though it was unclear whether the Cupertino, Calif., company was just testing them or planning to come out with multiple versions of the device at different prices. The remainder of the report summarizes previously-rumored information about the tablet, citing analyst claims of a price point near $1,000 and a multifunction nature catering to those interested in video, gaming, and electronic book, newspaper, and magazine content.
~Update 2 (Around 15/16 days to the event).~ Orange chief confirms Apple Tablet with built-in webcam. Looks like shit if ya ask me
Looks like shit if ya ask me
The photo of the tablet was just a random mock-up from google images. I don't actually know what It will look like/nor has any photos been released.
I'm going to kill them if they are going to release a new iPhone, I just got my 3GS.
I'm going to kill them if they are going to release a new iPhone, I just got my 3GS.
I dont know for sure, but I doubt it. Maybe a software update/8GB 3Gs. They normally release iPhones at WWDC which is scheduled for the end of june.
software update
Fuckers'll unveil an overdesigned piece of crap feature that no-one'll use instead of giving me my fucking windows explorer support.
New iphone comes out every year dontchya know
Fuckers'll unveil an overdesigned piece of crap feature that no-one'll use instead of giving me my fucking windows explorer support.
what the hell do you mean by windows explorer support
I'm going to kill them if they are going to release a new iPhone, I just got my 3GS.
You do know they release a new iPhone in June every year, right? [editline]08:04AM[/editline]
Fuckers'll unveil an overdesigned piece of crap feature that no-one'll use instead of giving me my fucking windows explorer support.
what?
I'm really hoping for the tablet, there's way to much going around for it not to be true. Apple ordering 10.1" touchscreens, all the tablet specific patents and so on.
Fuckers'll unveil an overdesigned piece of crap feature that no-one'll use instead of giving me my fucking windows explorer support.
:clint: And what?
what the hell do you mean by windows explorer support
I think he means being able to browse and add apps/music/videos to an iPod/iPhone using windows explorer, as oppose to only being able to do that with pictures just now.
I'm looking forward to this. Knowing apple, it won't be just a tablet. Or at least a tablet like everyone else has made.
:clint: And what?
It's a fucking contraction of 'will'. [editline]05:52PM[/editline]
I think he means being able to browse and add apps/music/videos to an iPod/iPhone using windows explorer, as oppose to only being able to do that with pictures just now.
This. They've shown that they can do this with the aforementioned feature, but they're just holding back because they want it to be leashed to tunes. The whole method of syncing your music is cumbersome and annoying, but it keeps it within apple's control, and that's all that matters.

I makes a mess and isn't as easy. Also, how would you do with your purchased iTunes music/movies/apps? apple can't give you acces to the files because it would create a lot of weak points for them as they need to know people don't copy them or steal stuff from the apps.

Especially when you start dealing with playlists, playcounts, podcasts and calender events etc. Plus, the whole idea of an iPod (except for the shuffle, obviously) is that it is supposed to mirror your music library, and iTunes does that seamlessly. I couldn't imagine not using iTunes for my iPod, it'd be just way more of a hassle to do everything.

Or, just allow me to add songs to my iPod through itunes without syncing. I fucking hate syncing.
I like the small apple events because they're very surprising. At WWDC, you can always expect something about the iPod, iPhone, OSX, or a Mac.

When you put a song on any another media player it just don't magically copy over in no time. So, instead of the songs beings copied over one and one, it makes a sync when you're done adding, removing or updating files.
I'm either really really excited about the tablet, or I don't care at-all. It depends how they sell it. If it's a tablet MacBook, I'm sold. If it's just a big iPhone, You can keep it. I'm really hoping they update the Pro's too. I've been holding off buying one as we got near the usual product cycle, which we are now beyond. So if they don't update it I'm either gonna have to just accept it and buy one, knowing in something like 5-6 months new ones will come out.. or wait that time. Both ways suck. If the tablet does make an appearance and it is comparable to a MacBook pro and it's not pretty lame (Hi MacBook Air) I might go for one of those instead of a MacBook Pro..

Because they update the Mac Pros in January and the MBP in June. [editline]10:42AM[/editline] Here's a really stunning Lenovo Tablet: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-ideapad-u1-hybrid-hands-on-and-impressions/ only problem is that when you take the screen off, it goes into Skylight OS instead of staying in windows 7.
MacBook Pro. Not always June, they've updated early in the year quite a few times and according to the buyers guide it's overdue for an update. If they don't update it and the Tablet is more Mac than iPhone, I'll buy a tablet. If it's more iPhone, I guess I'll be waiting until June
I think they're gonna surprise us with the tablet, just like they did with the iPhone. It's gonna be something new an innovative.

Even if you set it to manually manage the songs, it still requires you to sync. This means that if you delete a song or video from your itunes library, next time you sync it'll delete the fucking thing from the ipod. PLus, if you don't specifically tell it not to, if you plug an ipod into a computer that it's never been plugged into before, it'll immediately start trying to sync and delete everything on the device. I stopped using itunes o manage applications a while back, because I realised it was a stupid system, as any apps I deleted would be restored when I next synced, unless I specifically said not to, and if I stopped syncing apps it would delete all the ones I put on it using itunes. It's fucking ridiculous, and I'd much rather itunes be an accessory to the ipod rather than being required to use it. Oh yeah, and I can't delete anything I've synced to the ipod using itunes (barring apps). That's fucking ridiculous, I should be able to delete pictures at the very least.

Especially when you want a lot of things to be synced, so I doubt Apply will even give the users a choice to use it or not.
I think that the iMac should get a graphic upgrade, maybe a 5series ati, or a nvidia equivilant
You're waiting for a Mac Pro or a Macbook Pro? Why the nano's and 2nd-gen ipod touches didn't get picture-taking cameras is one of apple's biggest fuck-ups. EVER. I bet their Tablet won't be able to take pictures either, until 3rd or 4th generation.
