• Computer Goes Black! Help!
    23 replies, posted
After restarting my computer, it will display the Windows Vista welcome screen. After this, the screen will go black (it is black because that is my default desktop background color behind my custom one) for about 5 minutes, then go to my desktop. While it is in the "black screen" state, I can still move the mouse. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -Thanks in advance, Mike
Press ctrl+shift+esc, new task, type explorer.exe and click ok. See if explorer comes up.
Go to start, type msconfig and press enter. Go to the "startup" tab and screenshot what is there.
ctrl+shift+esc? i thought it was ctrl+alt+delete and then do the new task explorer.exe all that jazz.
I'm pretty sure once it goes black, it never goes back.
ctrl+shift+esc? i thought it was ctrl+alt+delete and then do the new task explorer.exe all that jazz.
Ctrl+Shift+Esc is Ctrl+Alt+Del but skipping the menu screen
Ctrl+shift+esc is a great shortcut.
Indeed

I BELIEVE ending it and reopening it via File>New Task>explorer.exe allowed it to turn on, but I am not entirely sure. Thanks! once you are at the startup tab, hit the Prt Sc button, paste into paint, save file, upload to a image sharing website such as imageshack/photobucket then paste the link of the picture in here so we can see whats in your start menu

MyWebSearch looks like it could maybe be one of the culprits. Disable it, and reboot. Report back if the screen blacking thing happens
MyWebSearch is a toolbar that quite a few third party software developers bundle with their "free" software. It is a search and error page hijacker that can be fairly tricky to remove. Smileycentral.com is probably the largest website pushing this toolbar. This toolbar will quite likely slow the speed of IE web browsing and searching due to the hijackings. There MIGHT be a built in uninstaller for some people called mywebsearch in your add/remove programs.
-snip-

[editline]06:07PM[/editline]
Got it by accident, I'll report back if it works!
I disabled the smiley shit, but the task manager, end explorer, open explorer is the only thing that has worked so far. Thanks a million for all your help!
Kay. Just for the sake of a clean computer, google "How to remove MyWebSearch" It's a load of shit. Next, I read your post a bit more indepth. I had that problem, but on XP. Try running a full system scan with an antivirus like Avast! or anti mal/ad ware program you are familiar with.

I WILL uninstall MyWebSearch. Fuck it.
mywebsearch is spyware fyi
Well, with a name like that, I'll be inclined to believe you.
Ergh I had that mywebsearch crap on my pc when I was younger, though I just simply unistalled it from the add/remove programs and it went straight away
Well, with a name like that, I'll be inclined to believe you.
It is. He knows a lot more about computers than you do (not sure if you were being sarcastic, although it seems like it). [editline]09:28AM[/editline] If not, disregard this post.
