• Building a New PC for under $1200

Alright, my current PC has been pissing me off lately. It's been failing to recognize my mouse for ages even though I've reformatted and used different mice, and I'm getting mad at how old my dual SLI 6800s (lol) are. I have a $1200 budget to build a completely new PC, including keyboard + mouse + headset, but I'd like to save as much money as I could while still keeping my PC powerful enough for the next 3-4 years. This is also going to be the first PC I'm building. So, here is what I've got so far: - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz Quad-Core Processor // ($199.99) - GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 Mobo // ($119.99) - A-DATA Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM // ($102.99) - Antec BP550 Plus 550W Modular Active PFC Power Supply // ($54.99) - Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case // ($39.99) - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5850 1GB // ($304.99) - Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB Hard Drive 16MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II // ($49.99) - Logitech G500 Wired Laser 5700 DPI Gaming Mouse // ($41.99) - Audio Technica ATH-AD700 // ($88.19) - Razer Lycosa Keyboard // ($68.52) Total: ($1151.07) I live in the US, and I already have a monitor & DVD drive. I also got Windows 7 as a gift from my parents, which I have not used yet in anticipation of getting a new computer. Also, two of the items come with free games, Assassin's Creed II and Modern Warfare 2, which I'd like to play with my new computer. I play a lot of TF2 and Orange Box Games as well. Questions: Will everything work with eachother? If I forgot to mention something essential about one of the computer parts, just tell me, and I'll give you a link to the page where I found it. If there is anything that I could improve (in terms of price, efficiency, etc.) please tell me. I'm really looking forward to getting this new PC, but I definitely don't want to learn that I spent too much on it or I didn't get a good one.
I have that same case. I wouldn't really recommend it to you... It's kind of shit. Front connections are not still when you try to plug something in like a headset making it impossible to plug anything in. It's possible to plug something in the 4 USB slots though. Everything should work together. Make sure you use www.newegg.com
looks good, the only thing I'd change is maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104318&cm_re=laser_gaming_mouse-_-26-104-318-_-Product
I dunno, I really like the Intellimouse design (used it all my life) but that's a cheaper mouse so maybe. Also, about the case: I wasn't too sure about that either. A possible alternative might be this: Lancool PC-K62. I've heard good things about it but I dunno if all the parts will work with it or not, or if it'll be good for my computer. Any thoughts?
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17747387 Switch out the 2 msis for 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102864 take out the dvd drive and add in whatever peripheries you prefer.
Get a sidewinder, like and x8 or something, for the keyboard i wouldnt go for a g110, I hear they are over-rated, Razer keyboards are nice and (lol some may call me a fanboy) but a Sidewinder keyboard is cool. The G9(x) is nice aswell. I would go for a different case really. Urm. Appart from that it looks all good or i just noticed FHamsters build and it is very nice.

I'm looking at benchmark tests and the Radeon HD 5770s are better than the single Radeon HD 5850, but the prices are about the same (except that the Radeon HD 5850 is the one coming with the COD: MW2).
It's better to get 1 5850 and crossfire later when you have the money.
It's better to get 1 5850 and crossfire later when you have the money.
Yeah, that's what I was planning on doing in a few years. Besides, FHamster's build actually goes a bit over my budget with the mouse + keyboard + headset included, and I don't know what would be good to cut back to. Still, I have no idea about the case. Any suggestions for something that'll fit all the stuff in my original post inside, with enough room for cable management? Again, I've heard good things about the Lancool PC-K62.
Yeah, that's what I was planning on doing in a few years.
I a few years, you'd probably have problems finding a second 5850 to crossfire.
Well, I don't mean in like 5 years, I mean in like 2 years. Hopefully they should still have them.
Two years is a very long time.
Yeah, but I don't buy too many games. BTW, any case suggestions? Having trouble deciding on one that'll keep me under budget. I can probably find a pretty good deal on one, but I have no idea what to get! [editline] edit [/editline] Found one, now all I gotta do is buy everything. Thanks everyone!
what case did you pick

I really like the new features it has, and the customizable weights are a godsend. Thanks for the recommendation!
Get this mouse, it's the one im currently using, and it kicks ass!! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105093&cm_re=microsoft_sidewinder-_-26-105-093-_-Product

I do i just never knew him well... its not insensitive and i am sad... I didnt mean it in an insensitive manner.. He died a year and a bit ago so i have managed to get on about it and not griev as much... Grief is just selfishness anyway
Don't get a Lycosa. I have never heard anything but bad about them.. other than their looks. They are beautiful. [editline]08:44PM[/editline] Buy Saitek. I have one, and it is amazing. Get an Eclipse.
the better Eclipse keyboard looks great. I never posted a Lycosa i posted a Arctosa and a Mamba

No seriously the Articosa is amazing... dont get the lycosa
Alright, thanks. Also, I haven't ordered the PC yet. I've found a good deal though from Fry's and I'm considering buying it. Would it work with the rest of my PC? (fast replies welcome, supplies are limited). Intel Core i7 Processor 860 MSI P55-GD55 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Desktop Memory (Corsair) Everything else in the original build will be the same except for the motherboard, the processor, the RAM, and the keyboard (which I'm swapping for an Articosa). The case also, since I'm getting a Rosewill Destroyer.
Dont bother with a i7, it only gives you hyperthreading which doesn't improve gaming, you'll save quite a bit with an i5 with no/little performance drop.
