hey, i'm planning on building a pc. i've got a good deal already selected, but this is my first time, and to be honest i don't fully know what i'm doing, I just have a basic understanding. so here Is a screen of what i'm looking into, i allready have a monitor/mouse/keyboard. the plan is a 2tb hdd, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136891 a 16 gig ssd, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139946 8 gigs of ram (2x 4gig) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 a radeon hd 6970 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102918 biostar microATX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138296 i5 2500k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 thermaltake lanbox lite http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133044 I plan on getting a second graphics card and running crossfire later, and another 8 gigs of ram with it. i was wondering if this seems reasonable for a box that size, and also what kind of power supply i would need. any suggestions would be appreciated, as again, this is my first build, and thanks.
Wow, that is such a badly balanced build. The caviar green is slow, 16gB SSD is a waste, H67 motherboard with i5 2500k is so wasteful that there is no words for it. How much do you have to spend?
i have about a grand. as you can see, i really have no idea what i'm doing. in my mind the ssd was for booting the operating system off of, but i guess that it might not be the best idea. what would you recommend?

Also, an ATX P67/Z68 board would suit your purposes (and budget) much better.
If you want to keep the 6970, then youll have to drop out on the SSD and drop down on the harddrive, although the spinpoint f3 is a good bit more faster and reliable.
cool man, thanks. I only have 2 questions about this build. the first is could the 650w power supply support a dualgpu setup, and also would this setup be able to over-clock at all or would things melt and burn? thanks again, you've likely just saved my set-up, seeing as i have no idea how motherboards function other than the fact that they tie everything together.
When picking out a motherboard for a multiplier unlocked cpu such as the 2500k and 2600k, you have to make sure that the motherboard has a p67/z68 chipset so that it is able to even make use of the unlock. Yes, it will be able to overclock, but do keep in mind that you should not push it too far on a stock cooler. Investing in a relatively cheap good value cooler such as a hyper121+/evo can be a good thing to do tho, as despite being cheap it can pull off very much. It wont melt and burn, as there are loads of security shit built in, if it gets too hot then the system automatically shuts itself down for instance, but you can still bust your parts if you overdo it. Read up on it a good bit before just jumping straight onto it. The 650W powersupply will be sufficient for crossfire, but just barely. You could consider getting a 700W as the 6970 draws a lot.
awesome, and thanks. you are a god
you are a god
not really but it was my pleasure to help you out
