Friend sold me his Windows 7 Upgrade Kit for his Gateway, will it work?

My friend ordered the upgrade for his computer because of that "If you got vista xx months ago you upgrade to Windows 7 free" thing. It says on one of the CDs "For Gateway desktop and notebook computers only." Will it work on my custom built computer?
I dont see why it wouldn't.

It'll only work if you have vista already installed.

I've got vista home premium 64 bit and this is windows 7 home premium 64 bit
What's there to lose?
It might, but if it's anything like my HP discs for my old computer, it's designed specifically for the motherboard and components that were inside the Gateway.
How would I revert back to my original vista?
Separate partition?
It will come with all the drivers and gateway gubbins for his laptop, so you'll have to gut it and install all of your drivers once its installed

You're looking at the second disk. Look over to the left a little.
OP, it probably won't work. Check the disc, if it has a folder on it called $OEM$ then it's a branded disc and will only work with Gateway computers.
its probably like the ones here, you need to select your model number at setup and it installs all the drivers, then you find it fails to boot because you've got the wrong chipset drivers on there, or it fails to activate.
It checks the motherboard. Oems used to be dumb and didn't use security, but M$ is on their case.
