I'll be off to uni soon, and I'm looking to buy a fast, light, and thin laptop to work on. I'll mainly be doing programming, but I'll also be playing games from time to time. But my main concerns are fastness (booting and file opening etc, not gaming) and lightness. I need something that's easy to carry around and easy to open up and start working. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Budget is $700 and below. Thanks!
I have rented a Dell Inspiron 15r for about a month and its a incredible laptop for its price. It costs 679,99$ on Amazon at the moment.
Specs:
Intel Core i7-4500U Processor 1.8 GHz
8 GB DDR3L SDRAM
1 TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
15.6-Inch Screen
1366 x 768 pixels
Especially the backlit screen is very pleasant for the eye, i usually work with it on my bed for scripting as well (with fl.ux) and i am considering to buy it as well.

Edit:
For 699,99 you have the exact same laptop but with a touchscreen.

Can I have a reference picture for size? It looks kind of thick and heavy.

This will be extremely snappy with the SSD. Not much storage room obviously, but an i3 with the SSD will have very fast boot times and overall load quickly.
Edit: Does very little for the gaming portion. I'll take another look around. Warranties and components for Lenovo are top notch though. You get what you pay for imo. My personal recommendations are an Asus or Lenovo. I really like my Toshiba as well though.

Something like that is not worth near $700, and it's wholly impracticable as a gaming laptop.

I'll agree with you on the gaming part, but everything else fits what he needs. Over priced? Maybe a touch. But I'm a bit biased towards lenovos
Edit: Nevermind, I thought the i3 3337 was in the base price. I take back my post. Also didn't realize the RAM was so low.
I need some recommendations :\ I can't find any.
