• About to get the iPhone 4S on Verizon, some opinions would be nice

Hello everyone, I'm finally making my jump from Droid X1 (piece of shit) to iPhone 4S in about a week, but I have a few questions if ya'll don't mind. I'd like to start off by listing some things that I have grown a little too accustomed to and am interested if there is anything like it in iOS (I haven't really used anything Apple since the first iTouch). Anyway, here goes.. * "Multi Tasking" - I'm not sure if this is what it is, but I'm used to playing a game, getting a text, switching to texting, replying, maybe checking something in Opera, and then switching back to the game, or starting a download and going into a game while it downloads - is this possible in iOS? * Notifications - I know iOS has notifications now, but for any Android users, are they similar to the way Android works? * Widgets/Desktop Simplicity - I'm used to having 1 analog clock on my home screen and then a "Ring/Vibrate/Silent" widget and "Voice Search" widget on the home screen. I'm extremely OCD and icons drive me absolutely nuts. Is there a way to put all of my apps into folders or something so I don't have anything but folders on my homescreens? * Widgets - Are there any jailbreak widgets or anything (is jailbreak still the term?) * Free WiFi tethering - My DX1 was rooted, so I could use WiFi tethering for free - is there an option like that for the iPhone 4S? We'll just start with that. Hopefully some of you can answer my questions, I look forward to the day that I don't need to fear my phone RINGING while on SILENT.
yes to all ( if im correct) except the download part. you can do anything else when you are downloading something form the app store. not sure about other forms of downloads.

I just swiped my mom's iPhone so I'm going to screw around with it until she notices (aka figure out how to make a folder and put every app into 1 folder) [editline]3rd March 2012[/editline] I had another question but I kinda forgot it now, but I just thought of another one. Does GMail suck on the iDevice?
Does GMail suck on the iDevice?
Nope. Works as well as any other Email. As far as free tethering, depending on your provider, you may need to jailbreak it to do so, which isn't a big deal, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, just make a backup before you do so. I've never had any problem with jailbreaking, I think it'll only really cause problems if you get cracked apps, some of the sources aren't trustworthy at all.
fffffffff are there any jailbroken apps that can do this
he's right. ios sucks at downloading things. might wanna try atomic web browser, and try downloading the zip file. then use ifile to open it. kinda long winded. also ios cant open zip files by default, you need a dedicated app if im not wrong.

There's at least a Teamviewer app though, right? And what about a VNC viewer?

If you have some more specific needs, I'd say a galaxy nexus is what you should get, but I'm not to say really.

I take it our good friend Soleeedus dislikes iphones. For your VNC, Evidently, there's this. http://itunes.apple.com/app/mocha-vnc-lite/id284984448?mt=8
I'm going to wait till Iphone5, hopefully I won't be waiting too long. I think Verizon is the way to go, I wouldn't say Droid is total shit thou, I have a Droid2 and I enjoyed it for the time I had it.

We have 3 upgrades on March 14th, one being my Droid X -> iPhone 4S. Maybe if the iPhone 5 rolls out I can upgrade to that. We're supposed to be getting 4G by July here, and having extra signal strength in my school would be pretty sweet, and maybe Verizon would let me use one of the two spare upgrades again ;)
Autumm = fall
I know, I'm just saying that's what I heard :)
I know, I'm just saying that's what I heard :)
Ah, so how does that VNC thing look?
Ah, so how does that VNC thing look?
Well, according to the description,
Using your iPhone or iPad, you can connect to a Windows PC or Mac OS X and see the files, programs, and resources exactly as you would if you were sitting at your desk, just on a smaller screen.
Assuming that is dead on accurate, that would be a problem, as I'm trying to connect to a Linux system :(. I don't mind paying money for some apps, but don't even bother with the $130 LogMeIn app (at least, that's what it was on the Android market)
hi everyone, back again with another question I remember jailbreaking to get some sort of season thing to change my themes and stuff, but I remember in the end my iPod was laggy as fuck - is this something that has been fixed?
Winterboard lagged my iPhone for a bit too, but it eventually stopped.
Winterboard lagged my iPhone for a bit too, but it eventually stopped.
thanks. anyone know about that VNC app?
thanks. anyone know about that VNC app?
Honestly, and many people will probably disagree with me on this, changing your iPhone by jailbreaking or other methods to obtain the amount of freedom as Android phones only leads to countless problems in the future. I've done it in the past and have current friends doing it today and they now have problem after problem, slowly leading to a full wipe for the cycle to repeat. If you plan on using the default iOS, then I have no reason to be tempting you away from it, but from what I can determine from your wants, you will be more happy with Android and the increased freedoms that come with it. Now, I know you said you are sick with Androids problems, but the top models on the market today are far, far superior than the first generations. I beg you to at least look at the customer reviews and comparisons before making such an investment.
From what I've seen there are no devices with the quality track record that iPhone has, and after doing a lot of Galaxy Nexus vs. iPhone 4S, I believe every single review (5+) all said they would prefer the iPhone (even on one Android site). I just want something dependable, and if that means sacrificing some freedom, so be it. As long as I can use FTP (which I remember, FTP On The Go), SSH (I remember an SSH app), and VNC (would be really nice to have this, but not a requirement) I suppose I'm set. I don't mind wiping my phone as long as things like texts and app data don't get reset, and I really don't plan on needing a reset. I kinda just want to get a simple design with nice wallpaper down (get one of those invisible icon apps and make everything pretty) and just use it normally from there. I know I used to load my iTouch with tons of crap from Cydia, but I'm a little too OCD for that now.

[editline]6th March 2012[/editline] for ssh and ftp, for transferring files to and from, for using the phone as a thumb drive, i recommend using a mixture of ifile and ifunbox.
@Ragy - and the reason you think I should go for an Android is because I've been stuck with one for 2 years, so I've adjusted to using one (or at least attempting to)
