Yeah, it was just amazing getting it to run with REVIVE until it never worked again.
They also did a great job on Grid Autosport, where they patched the VR support dead and never reimplemented it.
Part of the fun was the difficulty, but I think that'll be part of the difficulty options.
I just played an old rally game called Mobil 1 British Rally Championship (aka Rally Championship 2000). I was looking for something similar, but wherever I looked people say there is no rally game like it anymore.
What was interesting about it is that the tracks seem to be HUGE compared to tracks in newer games. There are tracks up to 42km long which you drive for over 20 minutes, but I read newer games focus on shorter tracks now, that you finish in 5-10 minutes, that doesn't sound interesting to me. Also in RC 2000 you need to repair certain parts of the car in the service area between stages and you have limited time to do so, you can end up disqualified if you can't fix the cooling, or you may lose a gear if you don't fix the gearbox in time. Another interesting part is that all the maps were based on real locations and are based on maps by Ordnance Survey, which is a national mapping agency in the UK.
Is there anything like it, it doesn't need to be a brand new game ?

The closest you get is Dirt Rally, so far. The stages are 5-10 minutes, but in my opinion, it's better that way. An event already consists of something like 12 stages, even longer stages would be a killer.
Every 2 stages you get half an hour to repair the car. I think the damage is a bit underwhelming, but it really does matter.
All stages are based on real stages:

Richard Burns Rally still goes strong with both modding and community, and has custom stages that can take 10-15 minutes.
