So my brother has been coming up to my house nearly daily to play bad company 2, my PC has a 2.5Ghz Quad core and a 4850, it runs BC2 no problem, the thing is we're taking turns and figured out we could do a lot better if we were both playing in the same room and covering eachother, so he's commissioned me to build him a PC for that very purpose.
Now when I built my PC I knew what was good for parts, but afterwards I lost interest in keeping up, so I have no idea what's good nowadays, this is why i've come to the intertubes, so you good people can help me find some good parts for minimal cashola.
Good GPU, CPU and RAM is needed, but he isn't going to need a huge harddrive, thanks in advance.

I would get the 2nd option and go for a core unlock on the Athlon X3.
Not much more to say, above poster planned an excellent build.
Get the second build. Also I wouldn't recommend Powercolor myself, their quality is very hit and miss, but they do have great prices.
It's got a 2 year warranty, just like the other cards, and I've never had any problems with my PowerColor cards.
I would personally get a 9800GTX+ from experience, but the 5770 is also a great card.

Holy shit, big performance difference.
well not big but pretty noticeable.

Actual Performance > Experience.
Stick with the 5770 and get the second build that was recommended.
The problem is unlocking a core can be very hit an miss. I would go with a 5770, or even a 4890 because i think on newegg they are around the same price
Oh wait forget that BC2 is DX11

It can run in DX10 and 9 you know
No i didn't know
Wouldnt be as nice though?
I don't think you will see any major difference.
Proof?

You would only really see a difference on a more expensive rig, I don't think that OP has anything to worry about.
A pretty little article, but I couldn't really see a difference on the screenshot nr. 2, and I fooled myself to believe the one on the right looked better...

You have got to be shitting me. Granted the tesselation looks nice on those NPCs, but how often do you run up to their face and go "ZOMG CICLEZ OLOLOL" I know I dont.
also, check out the second pair of screens. NO DIFFERENCE! Im serious, tesselation is the only thing slightly worth it in DX11, and I wouldnt pay and extra £100 for it, no sir-ee.

get this
JUST for BC2?
You need a monitor too?
nope, monitor's covered, I came up with a build myself, the only thing that's sketchy is the GPU, see with shipping/tax a $513 build comes to $630, which is a tad over, I can't get everything perfect, so I picked an ATI 4770, if anyone can find a better GPU for $100 that'd be kosher, as it's all I really need to improve.

there's a page of cards in the price range, for ease of use.
And yes it's basically just for BC2, considering this is the first game he's ever played online, he won't be getting bored anytime soon.
Why did you do your own? One I did was perfect. Anyway, list yours so we can see if it's crap or not
Because a $600 build + shipping and tax is then a $700 build, I can't post what else I picked out as I did it on my laptop and i'm on my PC, newegg doesn't keep lists for accounts for some reason. Anyways i'm confident everything else is fine, I'm just not sure what's best GPU wise nowadays.
[editline]03:19AM[/editline]
The difference between yours and mine is 2gb of RAM, and a 3ghz AMD dual core, same motherboard, HD size and likely a similar DVD burner, and a windowed case.
The DX11 looks much more rounded and realistic

4850, better than a 4770.
I run BC2 at max easy on mine at 1440x1050.

It's mostly the power supply that I'm concerned about, as people tend to veer towards the crappier (and therefore cheaper) ones. The case is mostly down to personal preferences, but I personally wouldn't get a windowed case on a budget as cheap windowed cases are often extremely tacky, and use lots of cheap plastic.
Not if they are nice ones... Obsidians with windows are <3

Like I stated before, only close up. How often do you run up to objects and go OMG TESSELASHUNZ!!1!!111
Seriously, it makes no difference to gaming.

He won't see a difference on a $600 build.
