Okay, so here's the deal. I'm currently on a 1.5Mbps MMDS (wireless modem) internet plan. Not a bad plan, latency's a bit iffy at times but otherwise it's good enough for what I want to do, games, downloads, streaming videos, etc.
Now, the problem: My mom is also on the network, and she plays Farmville/Frontierville/Whateverville. Alot. Like, a WHOLE lot. There's very rarely a time I can go through the dining room without seeing her playing it, even as late as 2AM.
Now, the REAL problem. Seeing as it's MY internet that I'M paying for, you'd think the easy solution would be just to cut her off. No can do. Why? Because of my grandmother. You see, grandma came to live with us while she recovers from an operation she had not too long ago, so I'd like to keep her life as stress-free as possible. If I kick my mom off entirely (which I've done), mom bitches, and when she bitches, it upsets my grandmother because, as I'm told by my great-grandmother, when my mom doesn't get her way, she goes crying to mommy.
So, I thought I'd work out a compromise. She can do whatever the fuck she wants from noon to 6PM as I do little to no internet shenanigans during that time. My router, a WRT160N from Linksys has a feature called "Access Restrictions" which does just that, but here's the REASON I made this thread. To use Access Restrictions, you have to choose a policy.

I can't do that. Anyone have any idea as to why? My firmware is up to date and the internet has failed to provide an answer.
if you have a white/blacklist try disabling that. Or make sure you have a hardwire connection to the router. Sometimes it won't let you access stuff unless your connected directly to it.
I don't know why that isn't working for you, but here's a better idea:
Install dd-wrt(www.dd-wrt.com) and set up QoS to give your computer priority over the bandwidth.
I've looked into DD-WRT, but from what I've read it's still not all that stable for this model of router. I'd love to have it, though.
Unless you have a v2 hw revision, it looks like dd-wrt works great: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT150N_%26_WRT160N
Thanks for that. I actually do like DD-WRT, the router where I used to work had it installed on it and it was pretty sweet.
