Lately, all the games I buy tend to not work.
You see, around a month ago, I got Fallout 3. For some reason, I can't start a new game because it just crashes on the loading screen. (Vista's "Has Stopped Working" error).
I went and installed it on my brother's computer, and it fucking works perfectly.
Later, (Around two weeks later, or something) I bought Prototype.
Whenever I try to start a new game, it stays on the loading screen. (I've left it loading for the whole night).
Unsuprisingly, it works fine on my brother's computer.
Just around an hour ago, I got BioShock.
I installed, and started a new game. Same fucking thing as Fallout. (Well, kinda).
I can vaguely see the loading screen, but its in a very dark tint. The game stops responding and I have to Task Manage its ass.
After searching for a solution for Fallout, I found a few threads about "Realtek High Definition Audio" causing the problem.
I then remember seeing the word "Realtek" somewhere on my computer, and what do you know? I have it.

I try and disable them, and try every combination.
Fallout still doesn't work.
As you'd expect I already tried all the "common" solutions like updating the drivers, updating Fallout, etc.
I'd seriously appreciate some help, and whoever assists me in reaching the solution will recieve a painting by me dedicated to him/(Possibly but highly unlikely her.) Sample.
basically, if you don't want realtek, you have to buy a sound card, because almost every motherboard comes with realtek integrated sound.
or uninstall the realtek drivers and use the ones that come from microsoft (usually autodetect ones)
Realtek does suck, I have it and I can't use stereo mix.
If your brother is using Vista too, then maybe your installation is a bit broken. Try making a partition big enough for Vista and your games, then reinstall it (if possible) and all your games. If they don't work then, then you have a hardware problem.
Well, maybe realtek isn't the problem, then. (Because if what you said was right, then we'd be hearing alot more complaining).
Speaking of complaining, I see lots of people with my exact same problem on the Bethseda support forums.

Really? I downloaded the latest drivers and i have it. Do you have "show disabled devices" or something like that ticked?

My brother is using XP, and my friend (Who uses Vista) borrowed the CD and it worked fine on his.

really? i can.
you must not have correct drivers.
http://www.realtek.com/
then go to Dowloads
then HD Audio Driver
then get the Vista/7 Driver.

there's your problem
I've been using Realteks' HD audio drivers since I got my PC two years ago, and they have been fine. The lack of Stereo mix I have now seems to be Windows 7, as I have it on my Vista partition.

did you install the 7 drivers from the site?
:raise:
Did the thread just get hijacked?

no, i already answered your question above hexpunk
Partially :v: Anyway, have a go with a fresh install of Vista, you'll be suprised how often a re-format helps. Especially seeing as your friend uses Vista too.

Also thanks, the download speeds are horrid though.

Try again, they have really crappy speeds on that site
or if you still cant get it, PM me.
Realtek does suck, I have it and I can't use stereo mix.
Depends on the card. The card in my laptop has stereo mix, I just had to show disabled devices and enable it. But the card in my desktop doesn't have stereo mix.
Install windows 7, its free until may 2010. You can pre-order it for cheap too.
or try getting a different sound card

Alright, I just did it.
Doesn't work.
[editline]09:24PM[/editline]
Hey look somone posted a "fix" on the bethseda tech support forums.
I'm downloading and trying it right now.
http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=894489
Wish me luck :(
[editline]09:30PM[/editline]
Fuck it didnt work because I downloaded the XP version.
Getting the Vista version.
[editline]09:49PM[/editline]
Didn't work either. What luck.
Any suggestions?
go to MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTUERS site
install realtek high definition audio drivers FROM THERE (they're specific for your motherboard...better than the generic realtek drivers)
if that doesnt work
disable hardware acceleration for audio in control panel

Currently doing the first thing.
Also, how exactly do you disable hardware acceleration?
I don't see anything regarding that in the "Control Panel -> Sound" section. (This is Vista, but I have it set to Classic view)
Whoops, haven't used Vista in a while.
Try this: http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/Windows_Vista/Q_23600953.html
What the fuck I have to sign up and get a "free trial".
But fine.

Don't bother, if you visit the page from google then you can see the solution:

Just scroll down.
Right click Fallout 3 and click "Run as Administrator"
May seem like a long shot, but this seems to override any problems I've had.
Did you reinstall your display drivers?
Have you tried running as admin?
Windowed mode on any of the games?
Check your hardware if its not a software issue. RAM is usually the biggest culprit in these cases.
Check your temps, is your CPU or GPU overheating like a bitch (shooting up to 90-100 degrees Celsius)?
Alright, my little brother suprisingly asked me to run BioShock in windowed mode, and it actually fucking worked. (He's a 10 yearold :raise:)
I tried this with all the other games, no luck.
I already tried running them as administrator, no difference.
My CPU/GPU is not overheating, and I have 4GB RAM, and can run games even more demanding than Fallout 3 at top quality.
Please post your PC specs and your brothers PC specs.
Please post your PC specs and your brothers PC specs.
I don't see why this is necessary. He knows it's a Realtek audio problem. All you really need is his mobo and maybe his soundcard if he has one.
What's his brother's PC have to do with anything?
