• Help with my build.

Hey guys, I've been meaning to upgrade my computer, or essentially just getting a new one. I've picked som parts out, and i want your opinion on the build! I'm going to be using the build for some heavy editing in After Effects, and a bit of gaming. I'd just like to know if i can downgrade some of the parts, because it's gotten a bit expensive, i also want to get a new keyboard, mouse and monitor. At this point the price is at 12000 dkkr. wich amounts to 2120,63 us dollars, we also pay alot in taxes and so on. But if you could judge my build and come with suggestions, that would be fantastic!! Here's the build i'm planning: Sorry, the quality was butchered, but you can still make it out. Thanks in advance!
I am going to regret this but, just get a top of the line Alienware rig. Format the hard drive(s) and re-install your OS. Saving money isn't cool having the best looking and fastest machine is, 7k USD isn't that much anyways. Oh and before I get banned for posting this about Alienware I would like to say to the Moderator that bans me. Get a better computer, thank-you!
Damn, they make 4TB hard drives now? Looks good though.

Alienware being cool or fast? Nobody is going to take you seriously anymore. Alienware uses the exact same bottom of the barrel hardware that Dell machines use, basically whoever wins a spec put out to bid on OEMs. The only difference is the hardware is mounted in an ugly ricer case with colored fans all over it.
Damn, they make 4TB hard drives now? Looks good though.
They've had 4 TB drives out for awhile. I think Seagate was the first out of the gate on them early this year.
I'm not getting an Alienware, that would be even more expensive, and a worse computer.
im not sure about the quality of the drive i would rather get a 3tb seagate barracuda or a 4tb one
OCZ drives are known to fail, get a Samsung 840 or 840 Pro SSD.

A $700 X51 has an i3 and a GTX 645. For the $1050 it has an i5 and a GTX 660 which actually is a pretty good price compared to other prebuilts that you spend $1000 on and get a computer with a decent processor but bottlenecked by a bottom line graphics card.
Doesn't change the fact that Alienware is shit.
And it dosen't change the fact that you are another jump-on the bandwagon flamer that likes to insult things he dislikes by calling them fecal matter.

It's overpriced, and can be easily out built while saving a outrageous amount of money. Prove me that Alienware is even remotely better than building it yourself, if they are not shit. [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] oh wait, you won't be able to
And it dosen't change the fact that you are another jump-on the bandwagon flamer that likes to insult things he dislikes by calling them fecal matter.
Please go give terrible advice elsewhere, we don't refer people to buy Alienware PCs in the "PC Building" section of this forum. Not only are they typically outrageously out of budget, but they perform worse, come with their own custom bloatware, and do not get people in the mindset of figuring our how their PC works so they can understand it better, and more easily fix something if or when it has an issue. edit: Back on topic, then. Your build looks solid, though I'm not personally familiar with the currency you're using however so I couldn't really advise based on a specific part's price. One criticism however, would be that you're purchasing a headset. At this point it's almost nit-picking, but it'd most likely be best if you asked for advice for a good pair of headphones and microphone over in our Headphone Buying Megathread. Off the top of my head, the generally acceptable go-to recommendation is a nice set of RP HTF600-S Monitor headphones from Panasonic, along with a good mod mic. Also if you absolutely have to cut costs, I'd downgrade to a 4670K, and opt for a cheaper HDD. The extra money you're investing into the 4770K could be well worth it however, depending on how much video-editing (reduced render times) and such you're doing, but for gaming you wouldn't notice a difference (unless perhaps you were recording, then it might be noticeable).
So you are saying that they are overpriced? I did a comparison with an Alienware X51 and the custom built equilavalent of the Alienware X51. It comes out about $150 difference, which to be honest is not that overpriced. And that's with all rebates and discounts. It's actually almost $1000 ($985) without the rebates and discounts. They are not "out of budget", and how can you predict someones budget? They may be out of budget for someone with a lower budget, but not someone else with a different budget. I don't see how they would "perform worse" if they had the same specifications. There is no "bloatware" except for Microsoft Office which to be honest isnt that big of a deal and you get a $100-200

A $700 X51 has an i3 and a GTX 645.
I can build a better system for less than $700. I just put together a complete system on Newegg with a non-rice case, better PSU, better motherboard and better GPU (GTX 650 TI) for $563. Toss Windows 7 in? $663 And you call a GTX 645 "better"? it's a card specifically built for OEMs. Basically a cut down GTX 650, which is already on the lower end.
For the $1050 it has an i5 and a GTX 660 which actually is a pretty good price compared to other prebuilts that you spend $1000 on and get a computer with a decent processor but bottlenecked by a bottom line graphics card.
I can reuse the same build and swap out the i3 for an i5 and the 650 Ti for a 660 TI and come out at $820. So I could save $137 on the i3 build or $230 on the i5 build, AND get much higher quality parts. If I wanted to spend exactly $1000, I could upgrade the CPU/GPU further and pull far away from the same priced Alienware system. There are zero redeeming qualities on an Alienware system.
You didn't link me to the parts on Newegg.

4 gifts for free. $40 in rebates. Just choose a aftermarket cooler and HDD. Which is another $100 combined. Totals $1100 or so, and get a 4670k, and GTX 670. Go learn about computers

You still get the option to pay for it monthly which isn't a feature you have on a custom built PC... Your arguements are invalid, if you saw the reviews on YouTube you would see that it is actually a good computer and most of you are just bashing on Alienware because everyone else does. [editline]25th June 2013[/editline] It's a small form factor computer, so they can't put in a power supply. They have to use an external power supply and that can only supply so much wattage. Not to mention you would have trouble building your own small form factor computer, cable management and all and you'd be looking at a Bitfenix Prodigy case which actually is pretty big considering it's width.
ROCCAT is actually not very high quality. Have a friend with a messed up mouse and a friend where his headset basically fell apart from poor construction. Go for something else

Reviews aren't everything, and they're probably comparing the Alienwares to other prebuilts. Have trouble building a small form factor computer? Hah. Mini-ITX is more difficult, but not impossible. It'd still be worth building a computer even if it took days to build. You're also justifying limitations on the PSU that shouldn't even be there. If you're manufacturing a desktop with en external power supply, someone is obviously doing their job very, very wrong. The prodigy is fucking tiny, BTW.

You are one misguided individual. I don't think you understand how financing works, or you wouldn't have posted something so ignorant (or maybe you would, we'll never know.) In order for you to do a payment plan, you must sign up for a line of credit with Dell. Their interest rate is a variable APR between 19.99 and 29.99%, but for simplicity we'll just go with the highest rate they charge. Let's say that you want to buy the $1199.99 Alienware X51 system and have a 36 month payment plan. Your monthly payments would be $50.63 for the three years, and at the end of that time, you will have paid $633.67 in interest. That's $1833.66 total, or a 50.8% increase in the cost of the machine for using financing. For $1833.66, someone could custom build a top of the line machine that Alienware could never touch, or build several machines that Alienware still would be orders of magnitude worse.
It's a small form factor computer, so they can't put in a power supply. They have to use an external power supply and that can only supply so much wattage.
