• Installed Vista X64 SP1 and now my dvd drive doesn't work

There was something wrong with my PC that wouldn't let me install SP1 but now I fixed it so don't ask about it. Apparently something is wrong with the driver for it but when I updated it, it said I have the latest drivers. Is there anyway to fix this without buying a new dvd drive? "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" The model is HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-H62N SCSI Cdrom device
You sure you didn't screw something up when you "fixed" the problem? Also, I worked on a computer like that for a client a while back. They'd been screwing around with files they shouldn't and borked Windows. After a ton of Googling and about 6 hours of trying various things, then only way I was able to fix it was a reformat. Never did find out exactly what caused the issue. I tried replacing the drive with a known good one and it did the exact same thing.
I couldn't have screwed something up, I just put my DVD back in and clicked upgrade so it reinstalls Vista and removes all the updates so I could reinstall them
