• PSU dying?
    11 replies, posted
So as of recently, my PC has been acting a bit funky and I'm blaming my PSU. - My PC is plugged into a box with a number of outlets (if that makes any fucking sense) which I turn off when I go to bed/work. When I try to boot my PC after switching it on, it won't. Instead, it leaves me with a black screen and a sound like my computer's starting. It'll turn off by pressing the power button like I would when I turn it on, which only makes it weirder. After that, it starts normally. - It also makes weird sounds when working. At random intervals, I'll hear a brief click followed by it sounding like it's turning off, only it doesn't do anything. I'm thinking it's dying. Can anyone support this? Also, should I replace it, would this be a good replacement? http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/productDetails.html?artno=tn6v67&baseId=685579
Reseat all the cables. Post results.

What's the word for that again?
power strip/surge protector
power strip/surge protector
Normal people just call it an extension cord/lead but whatever floats your boat.
Normal people just call it an extension cord/lead but whatever floats your boat.
It's a power strip. A extension cord is this.
A faulty PSU wouldn't usually prevent the machine from turning on, it would cause other problems like BSODs, random resetting and certain peripherals browning out. I'd blame your motherboard before the PSU, open the case and check for bulging capacitors or other oddities.
if those sounds are whines, it's just coil whine.
You're drawing too much power if you're shit sounds like it's turning off. I already mentioned this in another thread you made, but unplug anything extra you don't need. Does stuff turn off when you have high power stuff running(games?) or is it with normal use(web browser?)?
Excuse the bump, but I've run into something that's probably worth mentioning if only to have a shot at getting a definitive problem. Just had to update, rebooted and I was greeted by a white screen. Like the black screen issue, it's fixed by simply pressing the power button. It rebooted fine afterwards.
