• Games to Play at Lan Parties?

Preferably free, but if they're cheap enough it could work. Some examples we have so far are: * Starcraft * Maple Story * Minecraft * Ogame And that's about all we've got so far. So suggestions are appreciated. Does anyone know if you can still play The Sims Online through local connection? That'd be hilarious.
CS:S and TF2 are quite unexpensive.
runescape
We all have TF2 and CS:S but those aren't things we really wanted to play. Another example is Empire Earth, casual games we can play with just the three of us and no one else. Runescape, not so much either.
The l4d games are quite fun. Alien Swarm is free. If you guys have the copies, Battlefield is a great series too.
Serious Sam (the originals) The demos are free and also have co-op.
Compony of Heros and/or killing Floor
Halo/COD
Halo 2/Call of Duty 4
Fix'd.
League of Legends
Battlefield 2
Monday Night Combat Halo: CE
Bloodline Champions
Warcraft 3 [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Magicka
Wolfenstein: Enemy territory. It's free, and the requirements are low
quake
Magicka
It sucks that a lot of big game titles from the last few years aren't playable on LANs because all those developers made dedicated server hosting rent-only and bullshit like that. Anyway CoD4 and most Valve titles are good choices if you guys are shooter fans.
Unreal Tournament, Garry's Mod, and TF2 I generally have most fun with on LAN parties.
L4D2, UT99, UT2k4, and, if there are enough people, Battlefield games.
doom2 / quake
runescape
The funny thing is that its actually quite hilarious, me and my mates do it sometimes, and always go to the wilderness together, and somebody always ends up getting backstabbed.
My group usually does Source mods, mostly HL1, Defcon, Starcraft, and Halo 1. We'd play more steam games, but the internet where we play doesn't have any of the ports open to prevent pirates.
MineCraft
Killing floor
Did you say... maple story? :colbert:
Minecraft is really fun when playing with friends. L4D or any teamwork based game is also fun. I'd say TF2 but, well.. It's been ruined. Full of hat collectors and people asking for trades all the damn time. All the good old players don't play it anymore.
This indie game It's free and I can testify to it being damn fun at a LAN party, I am guilty of having LAN parties during class last term where the entire class (professor included) started playing. Really small download, can be transferred via USB drive very easily. Custom maps (assuming you don't have them connected to the internet as well) should be distributed to everyone when you give them the game itself so that no one gets booted from the server for not having the map.
lead and gold
Seven Coop + Afraid Of Monsters + lights off = scariest shit possible.
